Special to The Palm Beach Post

The Jupiter Craft Brewers Festival, entering its seventh year has taken great pains to ensure the event grows no more.

Organizers anticipate an attendance of 3000 beer lovers. Some 1500 tickets remain available to those showing up Saturday Jan. 26. Those willing to brave the line will most likely get in and enjoy some special entertainment while they wait.

Once inside, they’ll be rewarded with some 200 beers from 73 different breweries around the state and nation. Local flavor will be more prominent than ever with appearances by Tequesta Brewing Co., Due South, Brewzzi, Funky Buddha, Big Bear, Inlet, Native, Gordash — and some newbies you may not have heard of yet.

Alden and Valerie Bing are a husband and wife team planning to open Orchid Island Brewing Company in Vero Beach within the next three months. Their niche is citrus-flavored beers, using the local fruit of the world famous crop from Indian River County. They’ll be pouring a Ruby Red (grapefruit) IPA, Jungle Trail Black IPA (flavored with honeybell oranges) and a Luscious Lemon Wheat Pale Ale.

Other Florida newcomers include Sailfish Brewing of Fort Pierce, Naples Beach Brewing Co. and Miami’s Schnebly Redlands and Wynwood Brewing Co. breweries.

Out of state newcomers sure to make a beer nerd’s knees go weak include Sixpoint Brewery, Brooklyn NY, the famed Goose Island Brewery of Chicago and the lesser known Two Brothers Brewing Company, from the suburbs of the Windy City, Frankenmuth, the 150-year-old brewery from the town of the same name in Michigan, Kentucky Ale, Lexington and something different from Original Sin Cidery, New York.

You can count on the old regulars to bring something new and different. California’s Stone Brewing will be tapping Vertical Epic 11-11-11 along with a Smoked Porter with vanilla beans. Highland Brewing Co. from Asheville has a barrel-aged Oatmeal Porter to pour, while Long Island’s Bluepoint will offer a White IPA and Spring Fling ales.

Also tempting your taste buds, Homebrew from the Palm Beach Draughtsmen. They’ll have several freshly brewed batches to sample, including a Coconut Wheat and Honey Porter. And be sure to try their “Pimp Slap IPA” which brewer Paul Blatz calls “a West Coast-style India Pale Ale irresponsibly packed with copious quantities of Simcoe, Amarillo, Centennial and Columbus hops.” Believe you me, you won’t be disappointed.

As for entertainment, there will be live music as usual from Keith Aherne and Bryan Bobo, while the popular Silent Disco will once again have fest-goers seeing folks shakin’ it on the floor. (But they won’t be able to hear exactly what song they are shakin’ it to.)

And of course, the Beer Guy will be around too, making announcements and posing for pics in my now almost famous monk habit.

Other Jupiter craft beer festivities

Those who are looking for a more open, relaxed, family friendly atmosphere can head across the street to Craftoberfest at Abacoa Amphitheater, where admission is free, beers are 5 bucks, brats are on the grill and the authentic German band Sonnenschein Express will oompah away the afternoon with you.

And only the lucky and ticketed will attend the annual Field of Beers festival at Roger Dean Stadium on Friday Jan. 25. Only 375 beer lovers will get to sample the pairings offered by 15 teams of brewers and chefs. That event is solidly sold out.

But don’t be too upset if you don’t have a ticket. There will be plenty of craft brew to go more than a few rounds when South Florida Beer Week starts flowing Saturday.
