Actor Burt Reynolds has been hospitalized with a severe case of the flu and his show-one man show at the Lyric Theatre, scheduled for Jan. 30 and 31, has been postponed because of his condition.

“I think (the hospitalization) was just a precautionary measure to make sure he’s fine,” said Donna Carbone, managing director of the Burt Reynolds Institute for Film and Theatre in Tequesta. “To the best of my knowledge, it’s not serious.”

Gossip website TMZ has reported the Hobe Sound resident, who underwent open heart surgery in 2010, had been coping with the symptoms of the flu for days. He became dehydrated and went to the intensive care unit of a local hospital. His doctors are optimistic about his recovery.

Reynolds’ show, titled “An Evening with Burt Reynolds — Part Deux,” was moved to March 25 and 26. This is a sequel to a previous appearance at Lyric in 2011 and the third time he has been scheduled to perform at the Stuart venue this season.

Last year, he appeared at the theater to talk about two of his most iconic movies, “Deliverance” and “Smokey and the Bandit.”

He also teaches acting classes at the Lyric’s Flagler Center and at his film institute, which is located at a temporary site in Tequesta. The institute, along with the Burt Reynolds and Friends Museum, is expected to move to a permanent location in Burt Reynolds Park in Jupiter.
