There’s just something about 12A Buoy that makes you want to settle in for the long haul. After all, it’s a beautiful day, and perhaps you’ve day-tripped to get here. Besides, legendary lobster mac ‘n cheese isn’t something to be rushed.

So you sit back, enjoy the breezes skimming off the water and consider a modestly priced beer or even a slice of pie.

We found 12A Buoy after spending the morning on the beaches of Hutchinson Island. We were swayed immediately into ordering the Lobster Mac & Cheese ($11), which was the best move of the meal. The appetizer portion was baked in an individual skillet, served piping hot and generous enough to share – plus, it provided leftovers for the next day. It was delicious – the cheese flavor strong, with a requisite level of gooeyness, and a great crunchy topping.

The Lobster Club Sandwich ($16) served on an egg bun and topped with avocado and bacon was also fantastic and comes with a choice of fries, coleslaw or cheese grits (do yourself a favor and get the cheese grits).

The Crunchy Grouper Sandwich ($11) showcased the fresh seafood and was such a large portion it left me too full to explore the peanut butter pie or Key Lime Pie for dessert, unfortunately. Another sleepy afternoon, perhaps.

The restaurant was still packed when we arrived at 1:30 p.m. on a Friday – and no one seemed in too much of a hurry to be leaving their lunch of respite. And really, why hurry a good thing?
