THE PLACE: Tabica Grill, Jupiter

THE DISH: The Key Lime Dagwood, $5.99

If there’s one thing we key lime pie lovers crave — besides, of course, key lime pie — it’s new ways to enjoy South Florida’s signature dessert. I’ve scarfed down the creamy tarts, delighted in Key West’s key-lime-on-a-stick rendition, sampled key lime frozen treats, mousse, cupcakes and cookies reminiscent of my favorite favorite pie.

And then, after a lovely dinner at Jupiter’s Tabica Grill one recent night, I met Dagwood. Key Lime Dagwood. It winked at me from the dessert menu. Moments later, a server set it before me: the creamiest, yet nicely tart key lime custard barely contained between layers of wafer-thin and crispy graham-cracker cookies.

It’s topped with whipped cream and a drizzle of simple syrup, this sandwich. But my favorite thing about this dessert is the texture contrast of crisp cracker and creamy custard. It’s also perfectly shareable.
