Going to a burger joint in food-fabulous Miami may be a little like going to New York and watching last year’s summer blockbuster flick somewhere near Broadway.

But this burger joint served the best lunch I had on a recent few days spent in the southern metropolis. Then again, Shake Shack isn’t your ordinary juiced-up burger spot. Unlike a lot of hipster burger places, this one has more focus than it does ambition.

The ShackBurgers, fashioned in the style of good-old roadside burgers, are bursting with flavor, without being unwieldy. The cheese melts ever so perfectly atop juicy Angus beef patties ($4.80 for a single, $7.35 for a double). Get your burger with a side of crinkle-cut Yukon fries ($2.70), and a hand-spun malted shake ($5.65). At more than 13 bucks for a “fast-food” meal, it ain’t drive-thru cheap. But it’s oh-so-delicious. And part of the reason the combo is memorable is because Shake Shack doesn’t super-size a good thing.

This particular Shake Shack is in Coral Gables, near the University of Miami. (There’s another location on Lincoln Road, in South Beach.) Done up handsomely with reclaimed and sustainable materials, this is the largest shop in the Shack chain.

Lucky for Palm Beach County, a new Shake Shake opens soon in Boca Raton. According to online ads, they’re now hiring.

I tell ya, it can’t get here soon enough.
