Healthy food takes on sophistication at Sophie N Me in Boca Raton

By Lona O'Connor

MENU

The fare here is based on organic vegetables and healthy grains, without antibiotics, hormones or preservatives, but don’t worry. Chicken and shrimp can be added to many of the main dishes, which include curries, both east Indian and Caribbean, wraps, burgers made from grass-fed beef, salads and appetizers. For dessert, their soy-based gelato will satisfy you as much as the richest dairy-based ice cream. We were devastated that they were out of green tea cupcakes. Next time. They also offer organic beer and sustainable wine.

ATMOSPHERE

Cool, calm and sophisticated, perfect for a too-muggy summer evening.

OUR FAVORITE FOOD/PRICE

The vegetable summer rolls ($7) came in a paper-thin rice wrap, with an indescribable sweet-sour dipping sauce. The coconut curry soup ($5.75) was subtle and addictive. The twisted chicken Murphy ($16.50) combined chicken breast and chicken sausage in a garlic sauce over quinoa and it did not taste healthy at all (that’s a good thing). The jerk chicken ($16) was spicy in a Jamaican way but sophisticated too.

REASON TO GO

If you are vegan, vegetarian, gluten intolerant or, more important, an adventurous eater, you are going to love this place. The food is tasty, and you will never miss what they leave out of their recipes. We (discreetly) licked our plates clean and vowed to come back to try out the dishes we didn’t get around to.

SERVICE

Our waiter answered all our question, and her only flaw was that she didn’t rave on nearly enough about the food. We had to do that, and we did.

NOISE LEVEL

Too quiet, only because there weren’t enough people in this very worthy restaurant, although they began to show up later.

KID FRIENDLY

Let’s just say that this sophisticated cuisine would be wasted on a peanut-butter palate.
