Special to The Palm Beach Post

There’s nothing to be blue about on Blues Night at the Omphoy Ocean Resort and Spa. The view is hard to beat (if oceanside is your thing). The starters and drinks are half-priced, and the live music sets the perfect ambiance for surveying the scene from the swanky shadows of Brandon’s By the Beach at the resort.

The night we went, there was almost a tropical monsoon going on and yet we barely snagged the second to last table – that’s how popular it is already. If you’re looking to snag the 50 percent-off deal, you’re going to have tough choices between the beef tartare, the tuna tartare or the veal meatball. (Be forewarned, though, there’s an 18 percent gratuity added that’s based on the actual cost of the dish, not the discounted cost.)

Our favorite thing about the night was enjoying 50 percent off between 7 and 10 p.m. No more rushing from work to squeak in a happy hour special – this is a stately, relaxed and grand way to enjoy an evening. And as Bobby Nathan crooned a sad, soulful story for us, we happily nibbled on tempura asparagus ($9 regularly and $4.50 during Blues Night) and delicious chicken lollipops with Maytag blue cheese and delicate celery ribbons ($12 regularly, $6 during Blues Night).

And I realized that Blues Night at the Omphoy is actually the perfect antidote for the midweek blues. Well played Omphoy, well played.

Blues Night at the Omphoy: takes place every Wednesday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Omphoy Ocean Resort, at 2842 South Ocean Blvd., Palm Beach; 561-540-6450; reservations are not required; upcoming artists include Joey Gilmore, J.P. Soars and famed French blues artist Nico Wayne Toussaint playing in December or January.
