For the second consecutive year, Palm Beach chef Clay Conley has earned a spot among the semifinalists for a prestigious James Beard Award. Conley, chef and co-owner of the island’s popular Buccan and Imoto eateries, is one of three South Florida chefs in the running in the “Best Chef: South” category.

“There are a lot of chefs on that list doing some really cool things, and I am once again honored and humbled to be included,” Conley said by email shortly after the chef and restaurant semifinalists were announced Tuesday. “Congrats to all.”

The New York City-based James Beard Foundation grants the awards, which are known as the Oscars of the culinary world. The foundation will announce the finalists on March 18, and reveal the winners at an awards gala at New York’s Lincoln Center on May 6.

The other South Florida nominees for “Best Chef: South” are José Mendín of Pubbelly and Jeff McInnis of Yardbird Southern Table & Bar, both of Miami Beach. Giorgio Rapicavoli of Eating House in Coral Gables made the national semifinalist list for Rising Star Chef of the Year. Hedy Goldsmith of Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink earned a spot on the list for Outstanding Pastry Chef.

Other South Florida nominees include Khong River House (Best New Restaurant) and The Broken Shaker (Outstanding Bar Program), both of Miami Beach.
