Asking me to pick a favorite dish from Lola’s Seafood Eatery is like asking me to pick a favorite book or a favorite child (if I had one of those).

I could opine about their lobster roll ($18), the perfectly buttered hot dog bun overflowing — and I do mean overflowing — with huge, identifiable chunks of succulent, sweet lobster, scantily dressed in a light mayo dressing. No fillers or celery to distract you here. Competing for attention were the best fries I can remember having in a long time – fresh bottleneck beer batter fries. And, oh, the coleslaw.

Or the hot, airy beignets ($3.50) that will bring all your memories of NOLA flooding back in one powdered sugar poof– whether you want them or not.

But if I had to choose, I would pick Lola’s Salad. I had mine served with seared sea scallops with that addictive orange basil vinaigrette ($13.50).

Resembling a work of art, the baby greens are topped with Italian tomatoes, corn salsa, crispy noodles that somehow stay crispy, thick chunks of tangy feta, dried cranberries and seared, bodacious sea scallops. The salad can also be topped with fried soft shell crab, seven-spice salmon, grilled chicken, blackened shrimp, lump crab cakes, fried calamari or blackened tuna. But whatever you top it with, the dish comes together with the most delicious salad dressing.

The dressing is a secret recipe and is made fresh almost every other day by chef Gladys Garcia, at the Palm Beach Gardens location. Day server Denise DeGray credits Garcia with the freshness and deliciousness of the food – even the coleslaw is made in-house almost every morning with a secret recipe.

“She’s very fussy, Gladys,” DeGray said.”

Whatever it is works. I wouldn’t change a thing.
