Classic breakfast and lunch fare, with an emphasis on old-fashioned comfort food: eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, burgers, BLTs, country fried steak and patty melts. (When was the last time you had a patty melt?)

ATMOSPHERE

Come to think of it, the ambience is comfort-y too, with warm wood paneling on the interior and breakfast specials named after Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn.

OUR FAVORITE FOOD/PRICE

Since we went on a Sunday, we ordered from the brunch menu, which was more decadent. To wit: cinnamon bun French toast ($6.50), which is apparently based on the premise that if either is good, isn’t both of them that much better? Breakfast skillet ($8.50) is an omelet plus home fries topped with cheese, suitable for lumberjack appetites. In case eggs Benedict ($8.95) isn’t rich enough for you, the weekend special topped it with smoked salmon, with pancakes on the side.

REASON TO GO

If all the foregoing has not convinced you, let’s discuss affordability. Prices are old-timey too, which partially explains the long line at the entrance on weekends. And unless you feel guilty that all those people are waiting for you to finish your meal, you can take your time and have an old-fashioned leisurely breakfast. Afterward, you will be sufficiently nourished to plough the back 40. Or take a nap. Oh, and be sure to check out the bakery counter as you pay your bill.

Warm, friendly and efficient, especially considering the large number of customers.

NOISE LEVEL

Our booth made a nice sound-cocoon. It might have been a bit harder to hear conversation out at the tables in the center of the room.

KID FRIENDLY

Definitely. We know what kids really eat. There are pancakes with almost every breakfast dish, and potato chips with almost every lunch item.
