ON THE MENU at the green market

By Brandon Kruse

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

THE DISH: Nutella and Banana Crepes, $4.50

THE VENDOR: Penn-ar-Bed Crepes

THE MARKET: West Palm Beach GreenMarket Summer Thyme

After studying the art of crepe-making in the Brittany region of France, Jeff and Marie Schaefer have funneled their interest in the thin pancake into Penn-ar-Bed Crepes. The husband and wife team serve their crepes out of a booth at the West Palm Beach Greenmarket, and their Nutella and Banana Crepe is a must-have.

Marie Schaefer delicately spreads batter around a circular hotplate to make a precise and nearly paper-thin crepe. Nutella, a chocolate-hazelnut spread, is then brushed across the inside and accompanied by banana slices and whipped cream.

Considering the ingredients, the taste is fairly predictable, but nonetheless delicious: a sweet mix of banana, egg, butter, and chocolate.

THE INFO: Penn-ar-Bed sells crepes at the West Palm Beach GreenMarket, which is now operating on Wednesday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. through Sept. 19 at the downtown West Palm Beach Waterfront (101 S. Flagler Drive).
