“Late-night dining” conjures images of drive-thru shakes, or giant slices of pizza, or diner fries meant to counteract the evening’s libations. We admittedly enjoy all of those things, but Clematis Street’s elegant, clever Pistache wants to inject a little class into the nocturnal nosh.

Meet the rejuvenated Supper Club, once strictly an insider deal but now open to savvy members of the public who like to end their evening on a French-accented note. Or just use it as a stop on a night-long whirlwind to keep the party going. We don’t judge.

This is how it works: Each Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Supper Club cardholders get 50 percent off of their food after 9:30 p.m. It’s that simple. No matter what you order, it’s half-price after 9:30 p.m.

We tried the steamed Venus clams, infused with a broth rich with corn and chorizo ($15.50 usually, $7.25 for members like us), the spicy filet au poivre ($18 regularly or $9 on discount) and the always creamy, authentic cheese plate ($16/8). And the My Precious martini, with the tres French St. Germain and passion fruit puree, was a light, sweet accompaniment — and, despite the name, there’s no shriveled former hobbit hanging around the bar trying to take it from you.

From our perch at the wooden bar, the scene was lively, full of revelers who’d come in from the adjacent Clematis By Night festival, as well as well-dressed patrons who’d come just for the occasion. It’s an upscale, chatty, friendly little crowd. We noticed some notables like local coiffure artist David K. and Buccan chef Clay Conley. The whole scene felt and tasted chummy without being smarmy. And all you need to do to join the club is fill out a brief application at the bar. And then… presto! (That sounded French, right?)
