Santa Fe Cafe fare satisfies fans of Mexican dishes

By Teresa Lane

MENU

Mexican- and southwest-style appetizers, salad, burritos, enchiladas, tacos, fajitas, steak, chicken, seafood, pork, desserts.

ATMOSPHERE

Warm and cozy, with lots of wooden tables, ceiling fans and rich southwest décor. There’s a main dining room inside, an adjacent patio area with bar and outdoor seating on the front porch.

OUR FAVORITE FOOD/PRICE

The house chili burrito ($10.95) was a giant burrito stuffed with my choice of fillings and smothered in tasty chili and cheese. I chose chicken for the filling and was delighted at how well the tasty ingredients blended for a satisfying Mexican meal. It was served with Spanish rice and refried beans, both of them superb, and complimentary chips and salsa.

REASON TO GO

I love Mexican food, authentic or with an American twist, and this restaurant never disappoints. Entrees are reasonably priced, and you’ll probably take leftovers home given the generous portion sizes. As soon as you’re seated, a server brings warm, homemade tortilla chips and salsa to the table.

SERVICE

Excellent. The waiter was never far from the table and filled requests immediately.

NOISE LEVEL

Moderate chatter and country music playing.

KID FRIENDLY

Children can choose from tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas and chicken tenders and fries.
