THE PLACE: Sara’s Kitchen is your neighborhood diner – if you’re lucky to live close enough to call it that. It’s a place where the almost bare, functional décor contrasts dramatically with the stellar dishes that steam out of the kitchen. These are beautifully cooked and abundantly portioned dishes – delicious eggs Benedict renditions, breakfast skillets and sandwiches, soul-warming challah French toast and buttermilk pancakes, hefty sandwiches, burgers and salads. The Lena family, proprietors of this eatery that’s tucked into a professional plaza, brings in a steady flow of regulars, despite the obscure location. The diners come to Sara’s for one thing: the food. It’s delicious.

THE FOOD: Hearty, quality dishes. I love the eggs Benedict Florentine ($9.49), served atop a jumbo English muffin with fresh spinach and tomato, spot-on Hollandaise sauce, and a side of perfect hash browns, crispy outside and creamy-tender inside. The challah French toast ($5.99) is outstanding – and ginormous. The egg bread is thick-cut and served in six variations (including cinnamon apple and peanut butter crunch, ranging to $8.69 in price), in portions so generous they’re easily shareable or ideal for next day leftovers. The California Pecan Dijon Chicken salad ($9.99) is a grand mix of greens, cucumbers, avocado, tomato, bacon and cheddar that’s topped with hot, tender chicken strips – again, delicious and perfectly shareable. The grilled Reuben ($8.99) is terrific, stacked with corned beef, melted Swiss and Russian dressing on rye. And the Rachel ($9.89) is just as tasty, piled high with hot pastrami.

THE SERVICE: Fast and efficient.

BEST REASON TO RETURN: To have breakfast for lunch.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Food A-, Service B
