THE FOOD: Beach café meets Tex-Mex cantina. The spirited eatery serves delicious fresh fish sandwiches and dishes with a Latin tinge and some hearty fare in generous portions.

THE AMBIANCE: The place has a feel of a salty beach bar, casual and inviting. Just across the street from the ocean, it offers a great perch for watching the shuffle of beachgoers outside.

THE BACKSTORY: Opened just a little over a year ago, this is the sister restaurant to Johnny Longboats, just a few doors down inside the Ocean Mall. The vibe is similar, though Two Drunken Goats is smaller and more cozy.

GOOD BITES: The blackened grouper sandwich ($12.95) is not just super-fresh, it’s insanely delicious. A thick, meaty fillet is served atop an open toasted bun with a side of fries, sweet coleslaw and a pink, Russian dressing-like sauce (although nothing more than a spritz of lemon is needed on fish this succulent). The Mahi Latino ($17.95), was equally fresh beneath a spicy, creamy pepper sauce (too much sauce, actually). That fillet was served with Mexican rice and an ample portion of pinto beans. I loved the Calamari Mexicali daily special ($8.95), tender, fried squid tossed with spicy cherry peppers. And I enjoyed the conch ceviche cocktail ($10.95), served with slices of ripe avocado and multi-colored tortilla chips in a tall parfait glass, which was a lively, balanced rendition.

NOT SO THRILLING: Appetizers and entries are worth the calories – desserts, not so much. The house flan ($4.50) was overcooked and the special piña colada cake($5.95) proved to be bland. I also found the watermelon mojito ($7.25) to be on the watery side.

DEALS: All you can eat tacos (chicken, pork and fish) on Tuesdays for $12.95, along with $2 domestic beers; “After the Beach” specials run from Monday through Thursday, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with nicely priced entrees ($12.95 to $15.95), plus complimentary chips and salsa, soup or salad and a glass of wine. Breakfast is served Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 7 to 11 a.m., with $1.99 bloody Marys, screwdrivers and mimosas.

THE SERVICE: Warm, friendly and efficient. Our server, Alyssa, was not only knowledgeable on the menu, she made us feel at home.

BEST REASON TO RETURN: That fresh grouper sandwich, paired with a Pacifico longneck.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Food B, service B+
