The 48th annual St. Lucie County Fair kicks off 10 days of entertainment and traditional fair activities today, with a concert by the ‘70s band The Guess Who, best known for their big hit, “American Woman.”

But things really heat up Saturday when Kellie Pickler takes the stage.

Billboard magazine named Pickler’s 2011 album, “100 Proof,” the best country album of the year for 2012, calling Pickler “an artist who has found her voice.”

Bleacher seating is free for these concerts, but reserved seating is also available for $25, which includes fair admission.

On March 1 and 2, members of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association will be riding, roping and wrangling in the arena for the sixth year.

Of course, you’ll find plenty of animals on display from prize goats to hatching chicks, and fair fun like racing pigs and hypnotists, tractor rides and a petting zoo.

And, don’t forget about all the scrumptious once-a-year fair food, like deep-fried Milky Ways and barbecue.
