Frankfurters go gourmet at Das Dog photo
There are 23 hot dog options on the menu at Jupiter’s Das Dog. You can go gourmet or classic with your choice of toppings.

By Jeff Smith

MENU

Twenty-three hot dog options, bratwurst, pressed sandwiches, ice cream, espresso and smoothies.

ATMOSPHERE

Casual diner décor, with shaded outdoor seating, several indoor tables and a small row of stools.

OUR FAVORITE FOOD/PRICE

The brats are tasty, especially slathered in sauerkraut, but it’s hard to pass up the gourmet dogs. There are turkey dogs, Kobe dogs, half-pound Angus dogs, footlong dogs and Vienna dogs, served with a broad variety of toppings. You can get a Cuban, a Reuben, a bleu cheese and bacon, a California (avocado spread, tomato, cucumber and Swiss), even a mac and cheese. Then there’s the mysterious das Dave and das Jeret — the menu instructs you to ask Dave and Jeret about the ingredients. But I went old school with the footlong version of the simple, classic chili cheese dog ($6). It was sublime, with savory beef chili covered in grated cheese that melted enough to hold things together. Such concoctions can pack a blast of sodium, but not Das Dog’s version.

REASON TO GO

The guilty pleasure of an American classic food.

SERVICE

It’s fast and efficient counter service. The only thing that slows you down is deciding what to order.

NOISE LEVEL

Generally low, although there was some excitement the day I visited as three guys wrestled a three-tap beer dispenser into place.

KID FRIENDLY

A place packed with hot dogs and ice cream? Absolutely!
