Get out and see Gorey

By Janis Fontaine

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

The Norton Museum’s Art After Dark is a relaxed evening that’s perfect for introducing your child to the world of fine art, and its new exhibit, Elegant Enigmas: The Art of Edward Gorey, is notable its cross-generational appeal. Gorey’s humor and drawings are appreciated by both 5- and 95-year-olds.

The exhibition features more than 170 works by the master artist and author, drawn from The Edward Gorey Charitable Trust. The exhibition includes selections from The Gashlycrumb Tinies, The Unstrung Harp, The Doubtful Guest, The Gilded Bat and other well-known publications. The 5:30 p.m. docent-led pbpulse.com tour will also take a closer look at Edward Gorey’s work.

The work on display includes original pen-and-ink illlustrations and you may find your budding artist wants to pick up a pen after seeing the exhibition.

The evening also features live entertainment by 2012 Blues Music Nominee Albert Castiglia from 7 to 9 p.m. and a performance by Jason Cardinal from 5-7 p.m. A DIY art activity from 6-7:30 p.m. will a wooden harmonica workshop lead by Malissa Reese.
