MENU

California-style Mexican with huge burritos, tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, chimichangas and combo platters. Chips, salsa and bean dip arrive free. Salads and desserts available.

ATMOSPHERE

The tables are odd shapes, the colors bright and the walls covered with lizards, cactus and colorful slogans about drinking and relationships. It’s fun and loud, with the occasional sombrero-topped birthday serenade.

OUR FAVORITE FOOD/PRICE

We usually get burritos that come with a variety of marinades and sauces ($11.99 to $13.99), like the burrito of the angels with chicken sauteed in olive oil, white wine, garlic and onions and topped with tomatillo sauce. All have been excellent. We tried the fajitas (chicken for $13.99) that had big thick strips of marinated chicken and a generous portion of guacamole, and the blackened chicken mango tacos ($12.99), which were practically too full to hold together and very tasty.

REASON TO GO

Baja Cafe is fun and the menu offers all the traditional Mexican dishes in generous portions. The margaritas are pretty standard with a mix that doesn’t have much zing, but the main dishes all offer extra flavor with the marinades and sauces.

SERVICE

Danielle was fast and efficient, as the service has always been here. You’ll get more chips if you want. Dishes come out steaming.

NOISE LEVEL

The motif is colorful and casual, so the restaurant is a little on the noisy side. But you can get a quieter booth in the front section.

KID FRIENDLY

The kids menu should go over well with offerings such as tacos and quesadillas ($5.99). Bring your own sippy cup and milk if you have a toddler.
