Who doesn’t love snooping?
Your neighbors in Flamingo Park are offering up their homes for a little authorized exploration when the 21st annual Flamingo Park Holiday Historic Home Tour takes place this Sunday.
This year the tour is partnering with its neighbor, the Armory Art Center, for an art sale and gallery show.
Here are five reasons to go:
- Meet the neighbors. Eight historic homes and gardens decorated for the holidays will be open from 5-8 p.m. Notable: Gary and Julie Holdefehr’s home received the Historical Preservation Award for West Palm Beach in 2010. Get some ideas for your holiday decorating at the two homes embellished by Marjorie Bennett of MB Florals.
- The food. Tastings from local caterers and restaurants and beverages will be served at each of the homes and gardens. Finish with something sweet at the homemade holiday dessert reception following the tour.
- Get some exercise. Or not. You can walk the tour if you’re hearty, but for the rest of us, there’s a free trolley providing transportation between the homes. Wear comfortable shoes, and remember: High heels are not allowed because they may damage the hardwood floors.
- The shopping. Stop at the Armory Art Center from 4-5 p.m. for its Holiday Studio Sale featuring artist’s creations, then come back for the silent auction and gallery exhibitions from 8-9 p.m.
- See the neighborhood. Flamingo Park’s historic homes feature Spanish Mission and Mediterranean Revival styles built during the 1920s boom era. Judging for the Neighborhood Holiday Lighting Contest takes place Sunday too, so you’ll see lots of homes decked out for the holidays.
