Fans of Tex-Mex fare will enjoy a visit to Tijuana Flats, where they’ll find such favorites as burritos, tacos, enchiladas and quesadillas.

MENU

This is a walk-up Tex-Mex restaurant with a sit-down menu. You’ll find the classics: burritos, tacos, enchiladas and quesadillas with red or verde sauces. You can lighten up with a salad. And of course there are chips and dips.

ATMOSPHERE

The restaurant is vibrant with varied colored lights and big, bold art painted on the walls. The black four-top tables can be pushed together to fit your group. But it’s a strip-mall restaurant, and you won’t forget that. You order at the front, and servers bring the food to your table.

OUR FAVORITE FOOD/PRICE

The Tijuana trio ($3.99) is a quick and yummy introduction to the restaurant’s salsa, queso and guacamole. You will not run out of chips here. The dos enchiladas ($6.99 with chicken) was tasty, and you can add beans and drink for an extra $1.99. The Tijuana chicken and black bean burrito ($6.39) had an excellent internal mix of flavors and a crispiness to the whole wheat tortilla I ordered — clearly toasted or pressed.

REASON TO GO

Besides a menu that should keep most Mexican food fans happy, the hot sauce bar adds the fun. I stuck to the “sissy” sauces, but even there the “Don’t Be a Chicken(sh**) Hot Sauce” punched up my burrito with excellent heat.

SERVICE

We were greeted when we walked in the door and shown the ropes. Everyone was friendly and helpful, tracking down a high chair and bringing me an extra spoon.

NOISE LEVEL

The music selection was interesting, but not so loud you couldn’t hold a conversation. This is a place to bring the kids, but not to linger.

KID FRIENDLY

Little Lizards menu provides good options, including the all-white chicken fingers ($4.19) with applesauce (or a sweet) and a drink. They don’t offer milk, only soda fountain drinks and iced tea.
