Palm Beach Post Staff Writer
Sheryl Crow (Feb. 18)
Kravis Center, West Palm Beach
The last time Crow was local, she brought some Slowhand magic in the form of a Eric Clapton cameo to her SunFest appearance. Of course there’s no promise of a superstar guest this time, but her first Kravis appearance seems tantalizing - will the upscale surroundings invite a quieter show from the nine-time Grammy winner, or will she rock out to My Favorite Mistake, All I Wanna Do, Steve McQueen and other amped up hits? All we wanna do is find out.
Madonna (Nov. 19)
American Airlines Arena, Miami
Can you believe it’s been 30 years since the release of Madonna’s debut single Everybody? (We’ll give you Gen-Xers time to collapse against your walkers and adjust your Miracle Ear). Madge, just like a stalwart Broadway grand dame, is still here, and her MNDA tour, which draws largely from the album that shares its name, isn’t about the hazy greatest hits. It’s about how awesome her fans (and Madonna) think Madonna is. And isn’t that the Madonna we like?
Counting Crows (Nov. 1)
Mizner Park Amphitheater, Boca Raton
When Adam Duritz and the boys played SunFest this spring, they did hits new and old, but not their arguable signature Mr. Jones. Will they right that wrong and musically rhapsodize about looking at the television and wanting to see them staring right back at them? We dunno - and Counting Crows, who famously flip their set lists at will, might not either. But there will be good jangly stuff from the recent Underwater Sunshine and their other albums. You might not even miss Mr. Jones. Maybe.
Aerosmith (Dec. 9)
BB&T Center, Sunrise
He may have turned out to not be the best American Idol judge of all time, but Steven Tyler, his highlights, his admirable blues-rock scream and his Mic Stand of Scarf-Covered Wonderment are finally back home where they belong, full-time. He and his Beantown brothers, whose Music From Another Dimension drops Nov. 6, are veterans at this rock star thing, and their shows are big, bawdy spectacles, just like they should be. And if all is right with the world, Tyler won’t waste any time telling 15-year-old Taylor Swift wannabes how “beautiful” their warbling is.
Sunshine Blues Festival (Jan. 19)
Mizner Park Amphitheater, Boca Raton
The Tedeschi Trucks Band, headlined by guitarist Derek Trucks and his bluesy beloved, Susan Tedeschi, are already veterans of Florida festivals, including the annual Wanee Festival. Now they’re literally taking a festival on the road with the first-ever Sunshine Blues Festival. The Boca date is second in a traveling experience hitting Fort Myers and St. Petersburg the days before and after, respectively, and also features Walter Trout, formerly with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Louisiana slide guitarist Sonny Landreth and the legendary rasp of Dr. John.
