Green Day's '¡Uno!' on leading edge of wave of new music

A metric ton of music out today, multiple albums in a variety of genres.

This week's biggest rock album is probably Green Day's "¡Uno!," the first of a trilogy of back-to-short-sharp-songs records.

Then again, the exceptionally successful Mumford & Sons' "Babel" and No Doubt's "Push and Shove," their first album in 11 years.

The biggest rap album is Lupe Fiasco's "Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1." Fiasco made news recently by noting that he refuses to vote, as he put it on Twitter, "For a system and a government that kills and steals all over the (beep) world with impunity and heartlessness." (He also made news in Austin last week; he was announced as part of a lineup playing Nov. 17 at ACL Live during Formula One weekend.)

Jam-band jazz might not be the best description for this stuff, but these next two acts bridge all sorts of fanbases: The Bad Plus' "Made Possible" and Medeski Martin & Wood's "Free Magic" arrive in stores today.

Dance music your thing? Mouse-headed artist deadmau5's "Album Title Goes Here" is in stores.

How about metal? Check out As I Lay Dying's "Awakened."

All-star noise your bag? Yoko Ono, Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore's six-song opus "YOKOKIMTHURSTON" is out.

Indie rock your thing? Fuzzy popsters the Dum Dum Girls' album "End of Daze" arrives.

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band has two releases today: a four-CD box set called "The 50th Anniversary Collection" and "St. Peter & 57th St.," a recording of the band's 50th anniversary concert at Carnegie Hall from January.

Pete Seeger, 93 years young, releases "A More Perfect Union," with guest Bruce Springsteen, Tom Morello and, well, Steve Earle.
