Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

What do you call 10 days of culture, talent and art at the city by the sea?

The Festival of Arts BOCA, which begins Thursday in Boca Raton and brings the world’s most sought after jazz and classical performers to the stage. And its ‘Authors and Ideas’ guests are writers whose work has singled them out.

A schedule:

Performances

Thursday: The Preservation Hall Jazz Band performs“Bourbon Street Meets Boca.”

Friday: Kodo, a troupe of legendary Japanese taiko drummers.

Saturday: Avant-pop classical violinist Amadeus Leopold performs with the Boca Raton Symphonia, Constantine Kitsopoulos directs.

Sunday: The Peking Acrobats

March 14: Keyboardist Cameron Carpenter performs with the Boca Raton Symphonia under the direction of Kitsopoulos.

March 15: Classical pianist Valentina Lisitsa with the New World Symphony, under the direction of Peter Oundjian.

March 16: Headliner Audra McDonald, winner of five Tony Awards and two Grammy Awards.

Authors & Ideas

Saturday: Washington Post columnist David Ignatius has published eight novels including 2011’s “Bloodmoney.”

Sunday: Patricia Engel, whose debut novel “Vida” won multiple awards and recognition including New York Times Notable Book of the Year.

Monday: Thomas Keneally, whose better known works include “Schindler’s List” and “The People’s Train” has won the Miles Franklin Award, The Booker Prize, and the Los Angeles Book Prize.

March 12: General George W. Casey Jr. The 36th Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army from April 2007 to 2011, Casey, Jr. is one of the most accomplished soldiers in U.S. history and an authority on strategic leadership.

March 13: Michael Sandel, Harvard professor and New York Times best-selling author of “Justice: What’s the Right Thing To Do.”
