A spotlight on the nation’s capital will liven the South Florida Fair this winter, along with author James Patterson, an ice-skating show and an exhibit on elephants.
The fair, which runs Jan. 18 to Feb. 3, includes a traveling exhibit of photographs of U.S. presidents taken by their official photographers.
These aren’t standard portraits though. Instead they show the leaders in rare and revealing moments. John F. Kennedy was the first president to have an official photographer and nearly every president since has had one.
The 70,000-square-foot expo space will allow visitors to enter mock versions of Air Force One and the Oval Office and view First Lady gowns.
Author James Patterson on Jan. 26 will sign books and make a presentation in the Expo East Stage. He’ll also host a VIP reception for the first 100 people who buy a $25 ticket for the private event, with proceeds benefiting Florida Atlantic University.
The Rosstyn Ice Show will present “America On Ice,” four times a day in the Ford Theater in Expo West. The show is free with a fair admission ticket.
Elephant Encounter allows guests to get close to the animals.
There are more new features: guests can take a swing at a mock “The Price Is Right” on Jan. 30 with Emmy-award winning television host Todd Newton. The interactive show includes audience participation, cash and prizes.
And during the new Firefighter Training Show, visitors can cheer on new trainees.
National recording acts expected to perform include Dustin Lynch, Jackyl, Country Gold Tour, Tenth Avenue North, Don Williams, Marlow Rosado y La Riquena and Angel y Khriz.
The fair is at the South Florida Fairgrounds, 9067 Southern Blvd., West Palm Beach. Advance discount tickets are on sale through Jan. 17. Adult admission, 12 and older: $10 advance, $15 gate. Child’s admission, under 12, is $5 advance, $8 gate. Children 5 years and younger are free, and seniors 60 and older, pay $7 in advance, $9 gate.
