…but it should have been three. What were you thinking, Christina Aguilera?

Lake Clarke Shores' Laura Vivas finally got her moment in the spotlight to sing an entire song, and she was amazing -- she has a range that starts somewhere in her chest and explodes out of her impressive cloud of dark hair. Her take on Marc Anthony’s I Need To Know was a sassy, English/Spanish demand -- she just didn’t need to know. SHE REQUIRED IT. I could not believe that a performance that commanding, that fierce didn’t get the win. But it didn’t. I’m kind of heartbroken. We waited all this time to see her actually do something besides smile under Carson Daly’s voiceover. And then she goes home. Keep it up, girl. We’ll be seeing her again. I shake my tired fist at you, Xtina.

In happier news, both Wellington’s Cassadee Pope and Boca Raton’s Michaela Paige got through -- Cassadee’s been given a good bit of attention and her choice to do Payphone by rival coach Adam Levine’s Maroon 5 was not only clever, but a good match. She nailed the high notes but kept the low ones solid. I like her. I also like Michaela, because she’s truly an old soul rock-wise. I’d have expected her to do a Pink song, keeping in that Mohwaked rocker girl motif, but she went old-school and did Love Is A Battlefield. And she owned it. I’ve never seen any singer who isn’t Pat Benatar do it in a way that isn’t extreme karaoke, and somewhere in her young life she’s connected to it. Impressed.

I wish we had a Palm Beach County three-fer. But I guess we’ll have to live with it. So far, I’m fairly impressed with the talent this year. We seem to have shed some of the shrieky girls, and we still have my two other favorite singers -- Scottish rocker Terry and awesome-odd Bill Withers-soundalike Nicholas David. Terry actually makes that Bay City Rollers haircut sexy, and Nicholas’ voice is warm and exciting. And his beard is fascinating.

Another bonus -- none of the coaches have started a Mickey Mouse-based blood feud with a singer on another team. So, there’s that.
