Vedder breaks out with ukelele, solo show

By Wire reports

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder’s solo shows at the Broward Center this weekend are promoting his latest album, the Grammy-nominated “Ukulele Songs.” In previous tour dates, Vedder has opened with the emotional “Can’t Keep,” notable for its hypnotic Jimmy Page-style drone, and showed off an appetite for sophisticated chord sequences on the four-string instrument. He’s also played a wide range of covers. In Jacksonville last weekend, where he performed 31 songs and played for nearly three hours, he did Pink Floyd’s “Brain Damage”, Pete Townshend’s “Let My Love Open the Door”, Bob Dylan’s “Girl from the North Country” and Neil Young’s “Keep on Rockin’ in the Free World.”. He also plays electric and acoustic guitar and mandolin during the shows.

Eddie Vedder: Today and Saturday, Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Information: browardcenter.org, or call 954-462-0222.
