These are not your Grandma’s quilts.

These are works of art using fabric and thread instead of canvas and paint by artists with unrivaled precision and dexterity.

The World Quilt Show returns to the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach Thursday through Saturday, where it hosts the 2012 World Quilt Competition XVI Tour, an exhibition of quilting and the textile arts.

These quilts are diverse and captivating – something easier to show than explain. Here are some of the winners’ submissions.
