Classy store is closing soon

By Leslie Gray Streeter

It’s been said that you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone, or, in the case of longtime, old-school Delray Beach department store Mercer Wenzel, almost gone. I wandered into the Atlantic Avenue store earlier in the summer, and was instantly charmed by the classy, classic details - an attentive, sweetly chatty staff, affordable fashion and an ample collection of clip earrings, which I’m always in need of. And now, just as I’ve found them, they’re closing after 54 years at the end of November. Until then, you should check it out - no slickness or flavor-of-the-month. Just good old-fashioned service. Wah.
