A SWEET SIP: 2010 Balletto Rosé of Pinot Noir

By Jennifer Podis

THE SWIRL: 2010 Balletto Rosé of Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, California

Even if you’re not a fan of rosé, you can’t help but be mesmerized by its color… from pale pink to deep salmon, and all the hues in between. I was reaching for a French rosé when the sales clerk suggested the Balletto. I’m glad I took his advice and picked up this wine with the inviting deep coral color. I was surprised by the nose. Expecting fruity aromas, I instead smelled dried flowers, wet earth, and hint of cherry and minerals. I just loved the character on the palate, too. There’s cherry and minerals again, and a little earthiness supported by a robust acidity. It has some weight to the body, but it’s still fresh and flavorful.

PAIR IT WITH: It would be fabulous with a Nicoise salad, sushi, broiled salmon or barbecued pork. For you vegetarians like me, try it with a Caprese salad, strawberry and feta or watermelon and feta salad. Being that it has that weight, too, give it a try with leek and gouda soufflé or mushroom quiche.

PRICE: $14.99 at Crown Wine and Spirits
