Amanda Brooks cut her fashion teeth on Lilly Pulitzer and Jack Rogers, became the creative director of Tuleh, and has written about style for Vogue and The New York Times Magazine.
Brooks’ first book, I Love Your Style: How to Define and Refine Your Personal Style ($19.99), came out last fall, with a foreword by Diane Von Furstenberg, a back-of-the-book blurb by Anna Wintour and scores of delicious photos inside.
Now that it’s almost spring, we asked Brooks, who grew up in Palm Beach, for five shopping recommendations for the coming season:
“Wearing a tuxedo jacket over an evening gown plays into the tomboy trend, but in a classic and more refined way.”
5. Tuxedo jacket & evening gown.
4. Layered necklaces.
“Layering lots of necklaces is a more delicate and feminine way to make a statement without drowning yourself in big bulky pieces.”
3. Something yellow.
“I keep seeing the color yellow pop up, and it looks fresh to me, especially a bright lemon-y shade. If a sweater or blouse is too much, a handbag or a thin yellow belt over a cardigan can be just as effective.”
2. Striped boatneck T-shirt.
“They are a classic and always in style. J.Crew has done a great one for spring. I especially like the less expected gray stripes instead of navy.”
1. Lace-up sandals.
“They are more delicate than recent gladiator styles and more flattering to the leg! I just got a dark green pair from Proenza Schouler.”

I like the shoes…who are they made by?
The shoes are Sam Edelman’s “Divine” sandals.
They come in stone or black, and they’re about $99. Available at Nordstrom.com and HSN.com.
I agree the shoes are cute.
I might go and get me a pair
There was a yellow bag also in the paper this morning. I have recycled the paper already so could someone tell me where I could purchase it . There was a website but I can’t remember what it is. Thank you…

Tignanello’s “Perfect 10″ tote is available in Sunshine, Honey and Spice.
It’s $89 at Endless.com,
The INC tuxedo jacket is $79 at Macys.com.
The multi-strand necklace is $78 at Bluefly.com.
And the J.Crew boatneck top is $36.
Wonderful!
