What we tested: Christopher Drummond Beauty Women’s Gift Set

Cost: $95

Where: www.christopherdrummond.com

Product claims: Christopher Drummond created luxurious makeup for those who desire 100 percent natural, vegan, organic-based cosmetic products that are the highest cosmetic-grade quality. Products are made exclusively from healthy ingredients and contain natural antioxidants, such as Acai, green tea, calming botanicals, balancing essential oils, and anti-inflammatory soy isoflavones, which help firm your skin while protecting it against sun damage.

So many natural or vegan cosmetic lines do not really compete with high-quality mainstream lines. If you’re a hippy chic who wants her natural beauty to show through, then you may not care whether your foundation provides full coverage or your lip gloss stays put. But if you’re the type of woman who doesn’t consider her sunspots to be charming freckles, and you actually want your lips to coordinate with your outfit, then it’s hard to find a high-performance organic makeup line. Christopher Drummond is an exception. These products have a conscience and will be well-received by women who actually like to wear makeup.

When it comes to “mineral” makeup, I’m like a stubborn film photographer who won’t switch to digital. I’m loyal to traditional foundation because I already trust the one I currently use. A lot of mineral makeup products lack the coverage I like and contain chemicals that disagree with my skin. Thankfully, Christopher Drummond left those known skin irritants out. The products are paired with a 100 percent natural, organic, vegan ingredient list. This is great news for all the gals out there who lead a strict vegan lifestyle.

Christopher Drummond could be a little more generous with his trial sizes — the tiny containers make accessing the products difficult — but good things came in these small packages. The concealer actually disguises blemishes, and the powder foundation provides good coverage without being heavy. The moisturizer goes on foamy like soap and takes a few minutes to blend in, but it left my face smooth without a greasy film. The products are very pricey, but I love that they are 100 percent natural and organic.

I found this to be a confusing little set. It comes with not one but three foundation powders in various shades of your general skin tone (the kit is offered in light, medium and dark). Yet none of the three seemed to blend in as effortlessly as one would expect a sheer, loose, mineral powder to. They all seemed to leave behind the same yellowish veil the concealer (included in the gift pack) did, and I know it wasn’t a matter of sampling the wrong tone. As for the Revitalizing Facial Serum, this one is not as “instantly absorbing” as the product description promises. On a positive note, the flat-top brush is not only animal friendly, it’s outstanding. Maybe not $95 worth of outstanding, but it’s a really nice brush.

This is one of the best powder foundations I’ve ever tried. It sets into your skin giving you a smooth natural look. It’s very sheer, but if you need more coverage, just add another layer. Be careful not add too much. The Radiance Booster felt great, not sticky like some serums. My skin instantly felt refreshed. To top it off, the animal-friendly brush is soft and delivers an even application. I also love the all-natural aspects of this line. It’s pricey, but good.

A few weeks ago you evaluated a product for lip lines. Could you tell me what it was as my husband’s too fast to throw the paper out. Thanks, BR
