Is a product that supports community trade, spares animals pain, champions human rights, protects the planet AND ERASES WRINKLES too good to be true?
Six women — ages 49 to 75 — dig deep into the jar to bring you this report …

What we tested: Nutriganics Smoothing Day Cream

Cost: $22

Where: The Body Shop

Product Claims: It harnesses the revitalizing power of organic ingredients to visibly improve your skin making it a natural alternative to other anti-aging products. This collection, clinically proven to help fight signs of aging, contains ingredients that are over 95 percent natural in origin, meeting ECOCERT’s strict certification standards.

But is it approved?

Marta Abreu, 54

It keeps my face moisturized, but I don’t see any special results.

Michelle Bernzweig, 51

This light, non-greasy moisturizer contains Brazilian organic babassu oil — the Body Shop’s Community Trade oil which supports about 50 women members of the COPPALJ Cooperative in Brazil, providing them with a steady source of income. This moisturizer goes on light, quickly absorbs into the skin and smells nice. Did it reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles? Not that I could see, but with so much else going for it, it’s hard not to like.Georgia Novotny, 75

It claims to keep skin hydrated for up to 12 hours, and much to my surprise it worked for much longer than any of the other products I have tested so far.Emily J. Minor, 53

I don’t mean to be a priss about the English language, but when I read on the box that this (heavy, smelly) cream helps with the “first signs of aging.” That kind of ruined it for me. Like finding out caramel mini rice cakes contain as much sodium as a salt lick, or something. (THEY DO NOT.) I know it’s probably a European-fancy-spelling-kind-of-thing, but when I see the word “ageing?” Well, that bothers me more than my crow’s feet.Peggy Fairchild, 61

It has a nice pump dispenser which I overused the first time I tried it, thereby discovering that a little goes a long way. Initially it was so thick that it looked like I had on a 60 sunblock, but it did rub in and left my skin feeling really smooth. It provides a great base for any kind of makeup, smells fresh, and seems to feel a little bit warm after you first apply it, which I like. It makes me feel like it’s working to tighten up those lines.

Jo Rose, 49

I found that my skin feels softer and looks brighter. For $22, I would buy it. Besides, with ingredients like organic olive oil, organic sugar and babassu nut, if I didn’t use it on my face, I could put it in a salad!
