Trace Adkins’ music reflects life’s highs and lows

Trace Adkins has released his 10th album, 'X'. (AP)

If Trace Adkins is remembered for “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk”, his tribute to the female derriere, that’s OK, he says.

“Hey, I just hope they remember me for something.”

But that would be a tremendous oversimplification of an artist who has more layers than a wedding cake.

His 10th album, X, released in November, may be his best work. It shows his depth, musically, emotionally, lyrically and vocally.

From “Muddy Water”, the gospel-tinged up-tempo first single, to the hilarious “Marry for Money”, to the super-serious ballad “Till the Last Shot’s Fired,” where he’s joined by the West Point Cadet Glee Club, it’s a rocky ride.

USA Network on Trump “sale”: Our bad!

ole0

The folks over at USA Network would like you to know that when they said earlier this week that Donald “The Donald” Trump had bought “Monday Night RAW,” they didn’t actually mean it. What they meant was that Trump “bought” it in their ongoing story line in which Donald Trump buys “Raw.”

Okee dokee. We know that wrestling is fake – Vince McMahon didn’t really die in a car explosion, f’rinstance. But we didn’t know that extended to fake press releases sent to real newspapers. Talk about staying in character.

I’m not even sure what to say about this. Just…cut it out, USA.

HUGE News: Trump buys “Monday Night RAW”!

donald

I’m not sure how “Monday Night Raw,” USA’s wrestling extravaganza, could get any bigger – after all, it’s about seven-foot-tall men who toss around other seven-foot-tall men wearing shorts and boots. But it’s happening – Donald Trump, who never does anything small (casinos, hair, American flags flying over Mar-A-Lago), is the new owner. And of course, he’s promising BIG.

“The Monday Night RAW franchise has been one of the top cable franchises since its launch 17 years ago,” The Donald said in a statement. “I’m going to do things on the show that have never been done or seen before.  As my first act as owner, I am doing something unprecedented.  I am giving back to the people who have been loyal all these years. For the first time in more than 838 episodes of RAW, next week’s show will be live and commercial free.”

Donald Trump to Miss California: You’re Fired!

prejean_lg

It’s official: Controversial Miss California Carrie Prejean has heard the words “you’re fired” from the pageant’s grand poobah, Donald Trump.

Trump issued a statement Wednesday saying he sacked Prejean for failing to honor her commitments as Miss California USA.

Pageant officials say Tami Farrell, the first runner-up to Prejean in the Miss California USA competition will take over those responsibilities.

Prejean created controversy during the Miss USA competition, where she was first runner-up, when she answered a judge’s question about gay marriage by saying marriage should be reserved for men and women.

Shanna Moakler resigns from Miss CA pageant

shanna-moakler-sld

Former beauty queen Shanna Moakler has resigned as executive director of the Miss California USA pageant, a day after controversial titleholder Carrie Prejean (pray-ZHAN) was allowed to keep her crown.

Moakler, a former Miss USA , said in a statement issued by her publicist Wednesday that she no longer believes in the organization.

She had angrily accused Prejean on Monday of violating the contract she signed with pageant organizers by speaking out repeatedly on behalf of organizations opposed to gay marriage and by failing to disclose she had posed nearly nude for photographs as a teenager.

Pageant owner Donald Trump, who could have ousted Prejean, said Tuesday she will remain Miss Calfornia.

Trump: Miss California USA can keep her crown

57418705

NEW YORK — Miss California USA can retain her crown after questions arose about semi-nude photographs taken of her as a teenager and her association with a conservative advocacy group for marriage, pageant owner Donald Trump said Tuesday.

Carrie Prejean’s comments about her opposition to same-sex marriage ignited a media firestorm after a celebrity judge suggested her response may have cost her the Miss USA title; she finished as first-runner up. The photos surfaced later and led to the review of her state title.

“We’ve reviewed the pictures carefully,” Trump said at a packed news conference at Trump Plaza in New York City. “We’ve made a determination that the pictures taken were acceptable. Some were risque, but we are in the 21st century.”

Trump also defended the answer Prejean gave at the April 19 Miss USA pageant. She was asked her view of marriage by blogger Perez Hilton. Prejean said she believes marriage is between a man and a woman.

“It’s the same answer the president of the United States gave,” Trump said. “It’s the same answer many people gave. She gave an honorable answer. She gave an answer from her heart, and I think for that she has to be commended.”

Trump only briefly addressed questions surrounding Prejean’s association with the National Organization for Marriage, a group that opposes same-sex marriage. He dismissed them as a “communication problem” between Prejean and California pageant officials.

“I use the term ‘miscommunication’ somewhat loosely,” Trump said, “but they were having miscommunication. The communication problem, I believe, is totally solved.”

Before competing in the Miss California USA competition, all prospective contestants are required to sign a detailed 12-page contract prohibiting Miss California USA from making personal appearances, giving interviews or making commercials without permission from pageant officials.

The contract also contains a clause asking participants to disclose whether they have conducted themselves “in accordance with the highest ethical and moral standards.” It asks participants whether they have ever been photographed nude or partially nude.

After Trump spoke, Prejean, who was accompanied by her parents, took her turn at the lectern, defending herself against “hateful attacks, despicable rumors and false allegations.”

“On April 19 on that stage I exercised my freedom of speech, and I was punished for doing so,” said Prejean, who described Hilton’s question as “politically charged” with a “hidden personal agenda.”

“This should not happen in America.”

Trump’s senior executive assistant, Rhona Graff-Ricci, said Trump wouldn’t answer further questions about Prejean’s dealings with the marriage group. Officials at the Miss Universe Organization, which runs Miss USA, didn’t immediately return a message Tuesday.

Melany Ethridge, a spokeswoman for Prejean, said Prejean “was never an official spokesperson” for the National Organization for Marriage. “They never employed her.”

After the pageant, Prejean revisited the same-sex-marriage issue in interviews and televised talks, including one at her San Diego megachurch and another on behalf of the marriage group.

On Tuesday, the group featured a photo of Prejean on its Web site and said it had launched a new advertisement against gay marriage featuring footage of her at the pageant. The ad also features video of Hilton referring to Prejean with a profanity.

The Miss Universe Organization has demanded that the group remove the ad. Brian Brown, the National Organization for Marriage’s executive director, said the group did not plan to comply.

Prejean said Tuesday that she had received thousands of letters and e-mails from supporters.

Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, is best known for his blog but has also branched off into gay rights advocacy.

“I’d love to have him back as a judge,” Trump said.

In 2006, Trump gave former Miss USA Tara Conner a second chance; she agreed to enter rehab when reports surfaced that she drank alcohol at New York clubs when she was 20.

You’re hired: Rivers wins ‘Apprentice’

joan-rivers-sld
Comedian Joan Rivers was hired and poker champ Annie Duke was fired on the final faceoff of “Celebrity Apprentice.”

Rivers beat out Duke on Sunday’s finale by planning a better fundraising gala – and, maybe, by launching better zingers at her rival.

Rivers won $250,000 for her chosen charity (God’s Love We Deliver, which brings meals to the seriously ill who are homebound). She also won sweet revenge against her bitter adversary, with whom she swapped many less-than-charitable words as the season wore on.

NBC’s over-padded three-hour broadcast eventually led to Duke being summoned to the decisive boardroom session, aired live from Manhattan’s Museum of Natural History. There, she heard the dreaded verdict from series host Donald Trump: “You’re fired.”

But before that, as she and Rivers sat across the boardroom table from Trump, the fur continued to fly.

“You are a two-faced person,” Rivers railed at Duke. “You have said I’m a cancer. You said you hoped I would die. You never said it to my face!”

“For six boardrooms,” said Duke, holding tight to her composure, “I sat here and acted professional.”

“Professional-ly,” Rivers corrected her.

“And there’s only so much a girl can take,” Duke continued.

“You’re not a girl anymore, darling,” Rivers shot back. “You’re a woman.”

Rivers and Duke were the last of 16 celebrities who started the season vying for the title of Celebrity Apprentice.

In its eighth season, “Celebrity Apprentice” has displayed remarkable stamina as a reality-show infomercial whose mission, in the form of a contest, is to plug brand names. Last week’s challenge called for the celebrity contestants to come up with the winning jingle to promote a certain brand of tuna. Sunday’s finale was built around a photography brand piggybacked onto product placement for a popular theater production.

“Celebrity Apprentice” is also dedicated to breathing new life into the brands of the celebrity participants themselves, who, as this season began, included Olympic figure skating gold medalist Scott Hamilton, comedian Andrew Dice Clay, former “Monster Garage” host Jesse James and TV personality Khloe Kardashian.

For the final task, dueling project managers Rivers and Duke were assigned to create a pre-theater party and silent auction, sponsored by Kodak, for patrons attending Cirque du Soleil’s “Wintuk.”

Project teams were composed of previously fired contestants including former football great Herschel Walker, Playboy pinup Brande Roderick, country music performer Clint Black, former NBA basketball bad boy Dennis Rodman, comedian Tom Green and TV host Melissa Rivers, reunited with her mom, Joan.

Difficulties (and enmity between the teams) spiked when Rivers tangled with the design firm that had been hired to assist both teams. The company pulled out on Rivers’ team – and Duke’s team, too.

“This woman needs to die,” Duke seethed as she tried to fix a problem she blamed on Rivers.

But now that the game is over, can the rift between them heal? In the show’s final seconds, Rivers rose to her feet and gave Duke, still seated beside her, a hug.

Donald Trump “fires” two shots on Celebrity Apprentice

Last night’s episode of “Celebrity Apprentice” was a bit boring but it ended with a double bang. The task was to make a 60 second viral video for all Small and Mighty Laundry Detergent. The teams were mixed up and the new teams were:

Kotu: Hershel Walker, Clint Black, Joan Rivers, Natalie Gulbis and Khloe Kardashian
Athena: Melissa Rivers, Jesse James, Tionne Watkins, Annie Duke and Brande Roderick

Melissa Rivers was selected as the project leader of Athena since she has experience producing and directing. Clint Black was project leader for Kotu since he had directed numerous music videos.

In short, Melisa Rivers kicked butt as project leader. Everyone was happy and they had a pretty funny video. They had little people (small and mighty) dress up as agents for all detergent and scrub down Jesse James.

B-list celebs compete in “Apprentice” bake-off

Palm Beach Resident Donald Trump

Palm Beach Resident Donald Trump

Donald Trump is back with another installment of Celebrity Apprentice.

Why like the show? Basically it is an excuse to round up B-list celebrities who have over-developed egos and pit them against each other. You can’t possibly put that much ego in the room and not expect a good catfight.

Then, in walks Palm Beach resident and millionaire extraordinaire Donald Trump (the one with the LARGEST
EGO) to cut those celebrities down to size!

The women dominated the two-hour premier. As a side note, I, as the woman in my house, also dominated. My husband called it for the men within the first five minutes. I stuck with the women. When will men learn? We are usually right…

Okay, so the celebrities were split into teams of men and women. The women picked the name Athena in homage to the goddess of war. The men picked Kotu for Kings of the Universe. The name is ridiculous. I half-expected He-Man to run in with his sword and fringed Speedos.
