Lucille Ball auction incites controversy among heirs

Heirs of the late Lucille Ball and her second husband are sparring over the planned auction of the some of the couple’s prized possessions.

Among the items on the auction block are love letters between Ball and Gary Morton, a Rolls Royce and some of the actress’ awards. Morton was the comedienne’s second husband.

The items were consigned to Heritage Auction Galleries by Susie Morton, who married Gary Morton after Ball’s death in 1989.

Ball’s daughter from her first marriage with co-star Desi Arnaz wants some of the items returned. An attorney for Lucie Arnaz Luckinbill says she will go to court Friday to try to block the sale if the items are not returned.

Susie Morton asked a judge Monday to determine that she has the right to offer the items for auction.

Steven Seagal sex harassment suit dismissed

Court records show a $1 million sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a former assistant against Steven Seagal has been dismissed in Los Angeles.

Kayden Nguyen claimed Seagal forced her to stay in a Louisiana home and that the action star repeatedly fondled her. The allegations led to the suspension of filming on the reality series “Steven Seagal Lawman.”

No reason was given for the dismissal granted Tuesday. Seagal’s attorneys had been trying to resolve the case through private arbitration.

Attorneys for Seagal and Nguyen did not immediately return phone messages Wednesday.

Seagal had denied the allegations through his attorney.

Israelis sue Al-Jazeera about Lebanon war reporting

A group of 91 Israelis wounded by Hezbollah rockets during the 2006 war is suing the Arab news network Al-Jazeera for $1.2 billion in a New York court for allegedly aiding the Lebanese guerrillas, their lawyer said Tuesday.

Nitzana Darshan-Leitner said the suit, which was filed Monday, claims the Qatar-based news network intentionally violated Israel’s military censorship regulations and reported the precise locations of rocket strikes in Israel in live broadcasts during the monthlong 2006 war.

The reporting enabled Hezbollah to aim its rockets more accurately at Israeli targets, the suit alleged.

Hendrix bandmate sues over release of song, claiming he authored it

Lonnie Youngblood was a hotshot sax player on the New York club circuit in the mid-1960s when he crossed paths with Jimmy James, a young musician who was turning heads with his dazzling virtuosity on the electric guitar.

After briefly playing in Youngblood’s band, James went back to using his real last name and conquered the music world as Jimi Hendrix, while Youngblood fronted a series of rhythm and blues bands that toured with James Brown, Jackie Wilson and other ’60s legends.

The friendship between the two endured, though, and in 1969, at the peak of Hendrix’s popularity, the two men recorded several songs in a New York studio that became a coda to their relationship when Hendrix died in London the following year of a drug overdose.

The tunes recorded during those two or three days are the subject of a lawsuit Youngblood filed this spring that claims one of the songs, “Georgia Blues,” was included on a 2003 compilation without his permission and without crediting him as its author.

The suit seeks unspecified lost-income damages from Hendrix’s estate, MCA Records and film director Martin Scorsese, who collaborated on the collection “Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues: Jimi Hendrix.” Through representatives, all three parties declined to comment on the lawsuit or didn’t return calls Monday.

Jeremy London seeks injunction against family

Jeremy London is asking a Los Angeles judge to order his mother and brother to stop giving interviews that the actor claims are harming his reputation and career.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday also claims the interviews may hamper an investigation into London’s alleged kidnapping in the desert city of Palm Springs this month.

The former “Party of Five” and “7th Heaven” actor is seeking a permanent injunction against his mother, twin brother Jason, and his brother’s girlfriend. The complaint says the trio have ignored requests to stop giving interviews about the actor.

Man sues Beyonce; claims video shoot trespassing

A man living across from a video shoot for Beyonce Knowles in the Hollywood Hills is suing the singer for nuisance and trespassing, claiming his privacy was invaded by unnecessary noise and crowds.

Court documents show Philip Markowitz filed the lawsuit seeking $25,000 on Friday in Los Angeles against Knowles, a liability company and Dina Ciccotello, a production coordinator for the video shoot for “Why Don’t You Love Me.”

Markowitz claims his expectations of privacy in his upscale neighborhood were “shattered” on March 26 when the crew came in the morning and didn’t leave until 11 p.m., and that his driveway was repeatedly blocked.

Calls to Beyonce’s publicists were not immediately returned.

Another Tiger Woods headache: A lawsuit from yacht crew

A slew of demanding galpals. An angry wife. Sex rehab. Humiliation. Sponsors dropping like flies. The scorn of former fans. All have been a fact of life for superstar golfer Tiger Woods recently.

Now, this. A 25-year-old former deckhand is suing Woods’ Florida corporation, ETW, after losing a part of a finger in an accident aboard Woods’ yacht, Privacy.

If you believe the lawsuit filed in Palm Beach County, ETW did the right thing — but only to a certain extent. And now the plaintiff wants Woods to pay up.

Privacy enters Old Port Cove

Privacy enters Old Port Cove recently

Alexander McKee, who now lives in Vancouver, Wash., claims he was cleaning the deck of Woods’ 155-foot floating palace, as he had done for five months in 2005, when a hatch slammed shut on his hand.

The hatch, says lawyer Wayne Mitchell, severed two of his fingers. Surgeons managed to re-attach one of the tips but the other finger had to be partly amputated.

“This was a very serious injury,” Mitchell said.

Put warning labels on hot dogs, says cancer awareness group

hot-dog1 OK, we all know that to many hot dogs are not that good for us (even if they are great for summer barbecues near the pool), but one Washington, D.C.-based group is suing to force hot dog manufacturers put warning labels on their product.

Today, The Cancer Project filed a lawsuit in Superior Court in Newark on behalf of three New Jersey residents, saying that hot dog makers are failing to warn consumers that eating hot dogs may increase the risk of colorectal cancer.

The group sued Nathan’s Famous, Kraft Foods/Oscar Mayer, Sara Lee, Con Agra Foods, and Marathon Enterprises, and said in the lawsuit that the companies need to put the following warning on their labels:

Warning: Consuming hot dogs and other processed meats increases the risk of cancer.”

For evidence, the group references a 2007 study published by the American Institute for Cancer Research that found that eating one 50-gram serving of processed meat (about the amount in one hot dog) a day increases the risk of colorectal cancer, on average, by 21 percent.

What do you think? Are hot dogs “as American as baseball and apple pie,” or are they potential killers? Sound off by posting a comment below!
