The trio of musicians in VersaEmerge has seen a lot already – national tours, band members leaving, time in the recording studio.
But is this band from Port St. Lucie, which just released its first full-length LP and is playing on this weekend’s Warped Tour, becoming hard-edged veterans of the music business?
Sierra Kusterbeck would have you thinking otherwise really quickly.
VersaEmerge’s lead singer talks about the band’s first trip to producer Dave Bassett’s recording studio in Malibu, Calif., with the enthusiasm of a wide-eyed innocent. Considering she’s just 20, it’s not all that surprising.
"He calls the place Chateau Relaxeau," Kusterbeck said. "It’s on this private road, and we’re winding up the mountain, one wrong turn and goodbye, right? It’s awesome, though. At the end of this five-minute ride, we get out of the car and we’re like, ‘Are we in heaven? I think we are!’ It had this gorgeous view, lots of fresh air."

“I was not, ever, for a second, popular.”
