Kate Gosselin, co-star of TLC’s “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” says it’s difficult reading stories about herself.

Recent media reports have focused a harsh spotlight on Kate and her husband, Jon, who star with their eight children on the popular reality show. In recent days, the Gosselins’ wholesome on-screen home life has been called into question by reports of extramarital affairs. Both Jon and Kate have denied those accusations.

“This is certainly not what I envisioned I was signing up for,” Kate Gosselin said Wednesday during an appearance at the Frauenthal Center, The Muskegon Chronicle reported.

“When I see magazines in stores it’s really difficult. It amazes me there is an industry that follows you around and writes stories about you.

“It destroys peoples’ lives. I need you to know, don’t believe what you read unless you hear it from that person.”

On its Web site, Us Weekly recently described an over-friendly relationship between Gosselin and her married bodyguard, Steve Neild, that “caught the attention of her husband – and has become the talk of many locals” in their Pennsylvania community.

People magazine’s Web site quoted Gosselin as saying the couple have been struggling for months.

“This week I’m on the cover of four magazines. One is true, three are not,” Kate told her audience.

The Gosselins are on the cover of People, Us Weekly, Star and National Enquirer. She described People’s reporting as the most accurate.

She has previously denied having an affair with Neild. Jon Gosselin has denied cheating with a 23-year-old schoolteacher, and he has apologized for putting his family in an “awkward situation.”

Kate Gosselin said the stop in Muskegon, located about 35 miles northwest of Grand Rapids, was the last on her travel schedule for a while. She said she plans to spend more time at home.

“The last couple weeks have been interesting,” she said. “I had to address that.”

TLC’s most popular series, which has been on the air for four seasons, attracts an average audience of more than 2.8 million viewers.

The new, 40-week season premieres May 25 with an hourlong edition.

Wake up Kate and smell the coffee? Are you serious? Free trips, free vacations, free furniture and all the other freebees your family gets would never have been possible, if you didn’t expose yourselves to this cruel world.

You opened the door for reality and now you are getting a dose of the real world.

When anyone signs themself up for a reality show the real reality is that you become a target for the good but especially the bad.

If Kate did not think once that everything was going to remain sweet and wholesome, boy, she needed to take a class in reality.

I only hope her children do not become targets. Whether the rumors are true or not, I don’t care, Jon and Kate should decide if their family life is more important than getting tons of money and freebees.

He works in computers and she’s a nurse, hire a babysitter and get back to work.

It’s people like Robert that should be writing exposure stories like Jon and Kate have been exposed to, since he’s such a good story teller and all. For one, if you recall before the birth of those beautiful children, Kate was in the paper for bearing multiples. She and Jon were a topic on a local level so she did not open a door to false speculations. It was the boredom of neighboring gossipers that lead to this and if you lived in their neighborhood too, trust me you would be the talk of the town. The problem is, is that people can’t even get enough of what is already being televised, they want more apple juice. And the jealousy that ranges from demented neighbors can become enraged by not getting enough so they start creating their own stories. Someone was obviously out to ruin their family rep on purpose. Maybe it was a neighbor who Kate or Jon had to cut ties with… you never know. I could call up Star magazine right now and say Britney Spears is at our local lake with the boys and they would be here in 2.2 minutes with their cams… think about it.
And Robert, for the record I would like to say that the children becoming a so-called target in your book would only be possible with more people like you bashing their parents in public like this. You don’t even watch the show so you don’t have a clue about what kind of relationship they have or the great parents that they are. You should know by now that those BS magazines are all BS written with false observations. They base stories off of keywords for crying out loud! BTW they both have never stopped working… this is how I know you never watch the show.
