When little Michael Corinthos opened his eyes after controversial brain surgery today in Port Charles’ General Hospital, he wasn’t so little anymore.
He also looked and sounded a lot like Jupiter’s own Drew Garrett, who left Dreyfoos School for the Arts as a sophomore to pursue his acting dreams in Los Angeles.
Garrett, who the Palm Beach Post interviewed the week after he started filming scenes as the head-injured adopted son of annoying mobster Sonny Corinthos and even more annoying self-righteous trollop Carly Jax, finally opened his eyes today and spoke after several days lying in a hospital bed and pretending to be operated on.
Michael, for those of you not familiar with the show, was shot in the head some time ago in a botched attempt on his adopted dad’s life, and since then has been in a presumably irreversible coma and mostly been played by the back of a hospital bed as various characters use him to spill their guts to.
But recently, Carly (Laura Wright, who’s a great actress even if her character is the bane of my existence) decided to go against all odds and agree to some crazy surgery that would either bring Michael back to them or kill him. The result was pretty much anti-climactic, since everyone knew they’d hired the smart and funny Garrett, who appeared on an episode of “Criminal Minds.” They don’t usually hire actors to sit in a bed, you know.
And after a week of teasing, Michael finally opened his eyes and spoke his first words, which were “No!….What happened to me?”
Sadly, he spoke them to stupid Lulu Spencer (the criminally over-hyped Julie Berman), who had absolutely no reason to be in his room, and certainly shouldn’t have been the person the show chose for him to say his first words to. He’s got his dumb mob family, plus the Quatermaines, his biological dad A.J.’s clan, as well as a lot of people who love him.
Nonetheless, I am so happy for Garrett, who you’ll read more about in next week’s Palm Beach Post, and his career, and encouraged this this week, GH pulled several veteran actors from the closet they keep them in so they can give more airtime to spokesmodels. Keep it up, show.

“GH pulled several veteran actors from the closet they keep them in so they can give more airtime to spokesmodels.”
Huh?? What does that mean? I don’t understand.
