Be careful what you wish for.

After years of half-jokingly suggesting that she be replaced with Jody Watley, and coming up with new nonsensical phrases to describe her judge patter (“Your soul is beauty fried in specialness and garnished with sparkly shiny shiny shine”), I am surprisingly heartbroken to announce that Paula Abdul is leaving “American Idol,” at least according to her Twitter page.

“With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to #Idol,” Not Forever Your Judge tweeted this evening. FOX isn’t commenting, but if this turns out to be true, this temporarily leaves us with two judges who know what they’re talking about (Kara and Simon), one who wishes he did (Randy), but only one who can articulate it (Simon.)

Not that Paula really changed that quotient – she created new ways to say “I wish you were good, but you sure are pretty!” But there was a sweetness to her that the other judges miss, which is sort of nice when you’re being told how you were the murderer of music and the traitor of tune. I am hoping that this hastens the search for a fourth judge, and I still say “Jody” and “Watley.”

Still, for the first time, I gotta say that she won’t be Paula. And that makes me sort of sad.

What a travesty. Why ‘fix something that ain’t broke’? This is what happened last year when an additional female judge was introduced. Nothing personal, she’s a lovely lady, but the dynamics of the show changed radically. Paula brings a touch of realness, sincerity, and compassion without the artifice of ‘playing the crowd’. She was genuine, or did a fine job of appearing that way, I’m very disappointed that the sweetness and humor she brought to the success of a show my husband and I would never miss will no longer be there.
Look out American Idol – sometimes you can get too big for your britches and lose sight of what or who created your success ……… big, big marketing mistake letting Paula go. Last year was unkind and not pleasantly received by this writer. Be careful what you ask for, it might come back to bite you ………. this show will not be a priority for me any longer – wishing you ALL the best in your future endeavors Paula!!! (your contribution to the success of this show will NEVER be replaced)

I am going to miss seeing Paula Abdul acting goofy and loopy on her Vikoden! Hopefully, Kara will inherit Paulas bottle of painkillers and keep us entertained!!!!!!!!

  3. Joy says:

Here’s hoping we see her on SYTYCD then!

What, 10 mil isnt enough you greedy bitch!

    • Cm says:

YOU ARE RUDE!!! IF YOU DO NOT LIKE REALITY SHOWS THEN DON’T WATCH JERK!

    • Craig says:

If she’s a “greedy bitch” asking for 10 million over three years (about a 30% raise), then what does that make Seacrest and Cowell for doing the same thing?

US Weekly said “Ryan Seacrest had inked a three-year $45 million deal, and Simon Cowell, who has suggested he may leave at the end of his current deal, is already in talks to sign a deal for a reported $100 million a year.”

Frankly, I think all of these salaries are ridiculous, but not as much as your absurd comment.

“…and this just in from other news that no one cares about”

Then why did you bother to open it, read it and comment on it?
