At the People’s Choice Awards, Mariah Carey was named Favorite R&B Artist, and thanked her fans graciously. But the attention was paid more about another speech the night before.

Carey, who was honored at the Palm Springs International Film Festival for her work in Precious, giggled her way through her acceptance speech and joked with Precious director Lee Daniels.

Here’s Carey’s explanation about that speech:

“Please forgive me because I’m a little bit um … yeah!” Carey said between bursts of laughter as she and Daniels joked around onstage.

Before leaving the stage, Carey thanked the audience “for listening to my little spiel, and God bless you.”

Watch the full speech below:

What about good role models? I cringe when I see this kind of
thing on Television and our kids are watching. From drugs, boozing
to sexual orentation and crime. I understand that these people
are human, but they are also public figures that should use more
common sence when they know that the public will be watching, and
realize that is the price they should have to pay when becoming
    famous.

Oh, the children, the children…. First of all, the Palm Beach Film Festival is barely on television, and is a one time event at any rate… Second, I don’t think it’s appointment viewing for anyone in the regular public, let alone kids… Third, I highly bet any of these poor, confused, forlorn children you speak of have seen their own parents drunk plenty of times… Fourth, it was not a children’s event… Fifth and most importantly, who the hell deems Mariah Carey a good role model? She is a singer. She is a very good one, but she cavorts in public in skimpy attire and sings very dirty songs, for the most part, or at least songs with clear adult themes, to appeal to a particular demographic which is not children. So get off your high horse and explain to your children that excessive drinking leads to embarrassing behavior. Case closed.
