More on Leno and late night:
Jay Leno’s late-night future up in air | Poll: Should Jay stay or go? | Video: Leno gets laughs out of rumors

Who's gonna get to keep 11:35?

Who's gonna get to keep 11:35?

NBC’s prime time/late night time slots seem like a game of musical chairs – First the Peacock network makes good on its promise to give Conan O’Brien the hosting gig of “The Tonight Show,” then takes away some of the luster of that accomplishment (no matter how they framed it) by giving Jay Leno, the abdicating “Tonight Show” host, his own 10 p.m. prime time show five days a week. People who like watching crime programs at 10 p.m., or “Dateline” episodes where Chris Hansen pulls the okee doke on “alleged” predators, or who just don’t find Jay Leno funny at any timeslot, cried foul.

And now that the show turned out to be a ratings turkey and, honestly, not all that funny, NBC is reportedly considering pushing Jay back to 11:35, meaning that Conan could be headed back to “Late Night,” and meaning Jimmy Fallon might be…oh, who knows? NBC, for their part, has released a statement confirming that they are committed to keeping Conan on NBC, which, as anyone whose ever been dumped by a vague text message claiming to want to be friends, knows doesn’t mean anything. Sure, they’re committed to keeping you around. But as what? And when? And what kind of friendship is that anyway, huh? And are you gonna pay Conan back for all those lunches when you “forgot” your wallet, NBC?

I’m wondering what NBC will do with Jimmy Fallon, and where they’re gonna pull five hours of 10 p.m. programming from. I think they’ll push “Law and Order” and “Law and Order SVU” back to 10, as well as “Mercy,” and maybe take “Law and Order CI” back from USA. (And maybe consider stealing USA’s programming people, because they keep coming up with great original shows, and NBC…doesn’t.) I’m still scratching my head over the decision to dump “Southland,” which they’d already started shooting for a second season, and letting its sister station TNT have it. Smooth move, Peacock.

What say you?

  1. MJM says:

Since the cheapskates at NBC/USA got rid of D’Onofrio and Erbe, there’s no point in moving Law & Order Criminal Intent back to NBC because most fans are boycotting the new season after Goren & Eames leave in the first episode…

    Conan or Jimmy?

    Doesn’t matter…they both suck.

  3. Toddy says:

Get rid of Jay. He sucks.

  4. Dave says:

Craig Ferguson, move to 11:35 and let the suits program organ music on the other channel and time slots. Fallon, go back to SNL; O’brien, get out from the front of the camera and try joke-writing again; Leno, do off-TV comedy theater stand-ups every night, but not in my city, please.

get rid of leno he’s BORING!!! i love jimmy hope they don’t cancel his show

  6. Magpie says:

Fallon is the freshest thing around. Lose him and late night is a loser.

  7. Desi says:

I love Jimmy, 5 hope he doesn’t get screwed in the deal. Conan seems a little different since the change.

  8. Jan says:

Gotta let the younger ones have their chance. Jay is funny but let him try something else for awhile…

  9. Ramon says:

Why are they pushing Leno back to 11:30? I thought the ratings sucker here was Leno, not Conan. In the end Leno will be hurt by all of this, and the clear winner laughing his worldwide pants is David Letterman, with Johnny Carson rolling in his grave with laughter. Oh and Conan, yeah get a show with Fox and do it!!!

Jimmy Rollins has postponed the effort to break the world record for striking a baseball the farthest due to calf injury. At this point the Number one Question at this time is Will He still confident enough to achieve this?Elegant Evening Wear
