Alex O'Loughlin: The new McGarrett

Jack Lord: The original McGarrett
Meet the new Jack Lord.
Or make that Steve McGarrett.
Alex O’Loughlin, the star of failed TV series Moonlight and Three Rivers, has been cast as the top cop on The Rock in CBS’ planned rebooting of the classic crime drama, Hawaii Five-O, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
O’Loughlin looks handsome enough. But he doesn’t seem to have the hard stare and unmoveable hair that made Lord such a ’60s and ’70s icon. Who can forget such classic badass phrases as “Book ‘em Danno! Murder one!”
The pilot will be filmed later this year, presumably to make the fall schedule. Daniel Dae Kim, of the TV series Lost, has also been cast to play the part of Five-O detective Chin Ho Kelly. No word yet on casting the parts of Danno or Kono or Wo Fat.
One word of advice: Keep the old theme song:
Aloha.

I am beyond thrilled that O’Loughlin will be playing in this remake. I loved “Moonlight” and it should never have been cancelled-but we all must move on. “Three Rivers” was a downer and didn’t showcase O’Loughlin’s oodles of charm. I think Hawaii Five O will gives us the best of everything-cool beach scenery, mystery, crime, and some romance. All they need to do is line up Jason Dohring as Dan-o. I should be a casting director!
I just hope CBS gives this a good night and time. Monday nights at 10:00 would be a great fit-following The Big Bang Theory…
Alex is perfect for this role! He already as experience in cop/detective shows and can even do most of his own stunts. All this show needs to succeed now is to be given the chance it really deserves. Go Alex!
Crisp writing and a good time slot will boost the Five-0 update, with the most talented Alex O’Loughlin, to prime time hit status. I cannot wait to revisit the beautiful scenery of Hawaii along with the gorgeous cast. CBS, please give us strong character development in this pilot!
If you have any doubts about Alex filling Jack Lord’s shoes, check him out in Season 6 of The Shield. Alex can be very badass, and his hair didn’t move, and he held his own against Chiklis and the rest of the crew. Alex is WAY more than just a gorgeous face.
In all fairness to Alex, I don’t know anything about him other than what I read here. So no disrepect to him but Jack Lord had a work ethic of the highest standards. He had a presence that mesmerized people. A superb actor that defined this role. A legacy that can’t be challenged.

congradulation on the lead role in Hawaii Five-O (Jack Lord)
way to go Babe! It will be nice to see you again I missed you!
and I hope CBS doesn’t pull the plug like they did on you with
Three Rivers, my God Alex the networks need to give the programs and the Actors like yourself a chance to be watched by the Fans before canceling the Program. I want to watch good T.V.
all the Best to you! GOD BLESS Alex…… Love U Terri
Of course, he is perfect to this role, Alex is an actor of huge talent and has already shown its versatility in many different roles, playing as police or as private investigator gave us two great contributions in The Shield and Moonlight, demonstrating his good work in roles of action, I am sure that Alex, will shine as the wonderful actor who is, in this new project, playing the role of Steve McGarret, just needs a good team around him and this seem that they have it already.
I’m looking forward to seeing him back on TV very soon.
I wish to Alex the best luck in the world!!
I grew up watching Hawaii Five-0 and most of us watched for one reason, Jack Lord. He can never be replaced. Five-0 happened in a unique time and place in our history. The writing was so-so but Jack Lord made it all work. Better to watch the show’s DVDs then remake a series that in my opinion needs to be left alone. Can’t Hollywood create anymore? Where are the new original ideas? Jack Lord was original. We don’t need to see a retread.
