The Miss USA Pageant is catching some heat for its new promotional photos — apparently, they’re a little on the “scandalous” side.

The contestants were photographed in lingerie, bikinis and gowns in a more high fashion, though sexy, style. The photos that are really raising eyes are the lingerie poses, entitled “Waking Up In Vegas” — the photo at right of Miss Florida Megan Clementi is frankly one of the tamer poses. (You can see the rest here.)

A critic told Fox News (via The Buffalo News‘ Pop Stand blog):

“(We) live in a culture in which sex sells, and I have to wonder if the Miss USA organization is falling victim to this. The organizers would do a great service to women if they took this into account and returned to their roots of promoting women in a classy, tasteful way.”

But the pageant’s owner, Donald Trump, has much less of a problem with the photos. Trump told Ryan Seacrest on Seacrest’s radio show (via Access Hollywood): “Whether we like it or not, beautiful women will always attract ratings. I think they’ve maybe gone a little over the top this year, I have some great people running it, but these pictures are a little wild. [But,] the girls are incredible.

What do you think? Take our poll below and tell us.

Are the new Miss USA Pageant photos too sexy?

  1. Christopher Lincoln says:

Being a photographer of beautiful models myself and in fact having photographed Megan Clementi several times in the past, I can tell you from experience that pageant models have some of the highest moral and ethical standards of any of the models I have ever worked with. These girls are all about image and not soiling that image if at all possible. I will say this about the images. Black and White images with a hard high contrast effect, always have a sexier/provocative look to them. If these had been shot in color with balanced lighting the effect would not have looked so sexy, but more fun. Lets face it, they are showing far less skin than they do when they walk across stage in their bikinis and no one seems to have a problem with that. It’s all about the mood that the black and white photos project.

Ms. USA has always been about objectification of woman, and not intelligence contests. So what does it matter if more skin is shown. If you don’t like it don’t watch it. But those who like to see pretty woman will never complain if their less clothed.

  3. James says:

I’ts not like it’s Miss America. No shock here!

  4. so what says:

This is terrible!!!! Men don’t want to see this stuff!!! We want full page pictures of women shaped like dumpling, dressed from toe to neck like they just arrived from Plymouth Rock.

  5. OBIWAN says:

Did you expect anything but objectifying from Donald Trump??
