The powers that be might not have been impressed with Jupiter native Drew Garrett’s performance as damaged mob prince Michael Corinthos on “General Hospital,” but the folks at the Daytime Emmys apparently are.

Garrett, who was dismissed from the show in late March after a year in the role, was named one of the five nominees in the Oustanding Younger Actor category this morning. He goes up against Drew Tyler Bell of “The Bold and the Beautiful,”  Dylan Patton of “Days of our Lives,” Scott Clifton of “One Life to Live”  and Zack Conroy of  ”Guiding Light.”

Garrett, still the subject of a write-in reinstatement campaign by several angry fans who call themselves the Drew Crew, was replaced by actor Chad Duell in the middle of a pivotal storyline – Michael killed his stepmother in self-defense, when she attempted to kidnap his newborn sister , and was sent to an unnamed island to hide from the police in the world’s stupidest cover-up while his father took the rap. Unless Garrett was drinking between takes and stealing pieces of the set, I can’t imagine what he could have done that was so heinous that the show would risk the momentum of a storyline they’ve built for months to replace the pivotal character two weeks before its climax.

But that’s what they did, and while it’s kinda dumb, I gotta tell you, at risk of being flamed by the Drew Crew – that Chad Duell is pretty good. Not every actor can pick up a big storyline at the end and make it work, but he does anguish and stoicism well. He doesn’t have Garrett’s intensity, but then again, Michael’s not so psycho these days. It works. And yes, Drew Crew, I’m still a fan of his. Doesn’t mean I can’t be a fan of Chad Duell’s, too. Not his fault Drew Garrett got fired.

I’m pulling for Drew to win because I want him to get a job real soon and this should help!

The Daytime Emmys are on June 27.

Chad Duell is doing well in a lousy situation, but I was amazed by Garrett. I’ve always hoped for an early death for the character of Michael, but Drew Garrett humanized him and made him feel authentic. Hope he gets the Emmy, he earned it.

The Disney kid is boring – Drew had intensity and and yes anger. I’d be angry too if I spent a year in coma and my brain was damaged.

i liked drew, too…but this new kid is doing a fantastic job with a very disturbing and difficult story line….i’ve been surprised and impressed…

I think Drew Garrett did an outstanding job as Michael and hope he wins an Emmy, I have not watched the show since he left and will never watch General Hospital again. It’s just not interesting anymore. We hope to see Drew on television again. I think the new kid that’s playing Michael now is not cute I’ve seen pictures of him and he just doesn’t have the Michael look. My question is this why does General Hospital always fire the good actors ? Do they know what they are doing or did they forget to take their medication?
