The campaigning to take over Simon Cowell’s judging position on American Idol has picked up some serious steam.

Last week, well-known producer Steve Lillywhite — best known for his work with Peter Gabriel, U2 and Dave Matthews Band — made his plea on YouTube.

This week, the Los Angeles Times blog Idol Tracker expanded on the bid of gossip blogger Perez Hilton. Hilton enlisted the help of FunnyOrDie.com to debut his spoof of a political ad that makes a serious case for his bid to judge.

(He’s not picky, however — The X Factor would be just fine too.)

Both Lillywhite and Hilton say their chances are slim, though, as Idol Tracker noted, Cowell did give Hilton quite a boost when he said the gossip guru’s much better qualified than Howard Stern.

One Response to “Perez Hilton among those campaigning for ‘Idol’ judging job”

Just what credentials does Perez Hilton have…period! He would just make his decisions not on their singing but on wether contestants are gay or not, and if they support sodomy laws in all 50 states. How did he ever become involved with the entertainment business anyway? He should be a barista somewhere, and even that’s an insult to baristas.
