Despite his rockin' weight loss, Dane went home this week.

Despite his rockin' weight loss, Dane went home this week.

Part 2 of this week’s two-part Biggest Loser starts with a pop quiz on health with Liz Vaccariello, editor of Prevention magazine and a new book called The Flat Belly Diet.

Three questions:

True or False: Switching from regular to diet soda can help you live longer. False

Which helps you live longer: cutting fat or cutting calories. Cutting calories leads to a longer life, Vaccariello says.

Which helps you live longer: pushups or squats. Squats, Liz says. They help your balance and can keep you from falling and breaking a hip.

The Black team wins a trip to Florida.

Bob, recovered from last night’s disappointment, does a blatant plug for frozen vegetables. They’re called Valley Fresh Steamers from Green Giant. They actually look kind of good.

Awesome last-chance workout montage of Bob and Jillian. Makes me want to go to the gym.

And, just like that, time for the big weigh in. Announcer promises it’s the biggest one of the season.

Dane of the Blue team wows everyone with his weight loss. In eight weeks, he took off 100 pounds. It’s a Biggest Loser record.

Blue loses a total of 54 pounds. And Black needs to lose 50 pounds to avoid elimination. They do that and more, posting a 54 pound weight loss.

The Blue team is going to lose a member. Cathy is safe because of her high weight loss. Back at the house, Dane knows he is a threat. Ron is vulnerable because he is not losing big each week.

After much angst, Dane is voted off in a roaring surprise! Lose 100 pounds and go home. Ouch!

Dane promises America that the next time we see him, he will be a supreme athlete. He keeps that promise.

For the transformation moment, we see Dane and his wife run their first marathon. Now, that’s transformation.

  1. Rick says:

For the record it appears Dane did not run the full marathon and most certainly did not do it in 3:53 as reported. If you look closely at the clock in the background it say 5:53. Additionally race reports from a runner who ran the race who finished in over 6 hours reports that Dane was behind her the entire time and a van ended up picking Dane and his wife up at mile 17 and driving them to the finish.

It might not sound like that big of a deal to the average person but for runners like me who worked their butt off to run a marathon I take great offense at the deception by the show.

    Rick,
The blogosphere appears to agree with you that Dane did not complete the marathon.
Here is TV writer Aaron Barnhart on kansascity.com on the topic http://blogs.kansascity.com/tvbarn/2009/02/the-biggest-los.html
    Thanks for pointing it out.
