Tom DeLay is obviously trying to garner public sympathy before his trial on conspiracy and money-laundering charges. He's a man who has has repeatedly compared himself to Jesus Christ, and who openly said, "I don't believe there is a separation of church and state" and proclaimed his mission was to bring "a biblical worldview to government".
