In September, ABC president Stephen McPherson blasted Heigl for complaining in interviews that she was forced to work 17-hour days. At the time, Rhimes indicated that big changes are in store. “Eventually, everybody is going to leave the show,” Rhimes said. “So we’re looking at (ways) we can mess with the structure now … Season 6 is about finding the longevity of the show and figuring out if there is a future for this show beyond these characters.”

Heigl has been on maternity since she and her husband Josh Kelley adopted a baby girl in September.
