After a steady diet of ovals, the IndyCar series hits the road — literally — for its first road-course race in nearly three months with today’s Camping World Grand Prix at the Glen from Watkins Glen, N.Y. Ryan Hunter-Reay, who won this race last year on the 3.4-mile road course at Watkins Glen International, will return to defend his title against a field that will include Helio Castroneves, Dario Franchitti, Danica Patrick and Tony Kanaan, among others.

MLB Baseball 2-5 p.m., TBS +116327
Two teams that figure to battle for the National League Central crown close out a four-game series today at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Cubs manager Lou Piniella hopes his hitters soon shake out of a seasonlong slumber that has produced a .244 team average and been largely responsible for the Cubbies’ mediocre record. As for the Milwaukee Brewers, they’re leading the division, thanks in part to the late-inning heroics of all-time saves leader Trevor Hoffman.

After Lancelot (Santiago Cabrera) rescues Merlin (Colin Morgan) from an attack by a magical winged creature, Merlin rushes the young man to Gaius (Richard Wilson) to have his wounds treated. Lancelot confides in Merlin that he wants to become Camelot’s protector, and he gets a chance to prove himself to Arthur (Bradley James) when the flying beast terrorizes a nearby village.

MLB Baseball 8-11 p.m., ESPN +677105
Overachiever meets underachiever tonight in Arlington, Texas, where the surprising Rangers play host to the Tampa Bay Rays. After a slow start, Carlos Pena and the defending AL champion Rays appear to have righted their ship and sit within shouting distance of the Yankees and Red Sox in the AL East. As for Ian Kinsler and the Rangers, they’ll go only as far as their young pitching staff takes them, which as of mid-June was the top of the American League West.

Masterpiece Mystery! 9-10:30 p.m., WXEL-Channel 42 +11785
Julia McKenzie (“Cranford”) takes over the iconic role of spinster sleuth Jane Marple in a new series of Agatha Christie-based mysteries that opens with the deaths of a businessman, his young wife and their housemaid under circumstances that bizarrely recall a nursery rhyme. Helen Baxendale, Matthew Macfadyen and Rupert Graves also star in “Miss Marple, Series IV: A Pocket Full of Rye.”

The problems aren’t over for the CIA assassin (Matt Damon) with the alias Jason Bourne, who is framed for the murders of two peers in this action-crammed 2004 sequel to novelist Robert Ludlum’s “The Bourne Identity.” While his superiors (Brian Cox, Joan Allen) debate his fate, Bourne schemes to get even with the higher-ups who wouldn’t leave him alone. Franka Potente and Julia Stiles also return from the first film; Karl Urban and Gabriel Mann co-star.

Alfred Hitchcock directed this 1955 romantic thriller, which won an Oscar for cinematography.

Despite a life-threatening medical crisis of his own and the birth of his son, Robert (Rob Lowe) remains determined to run for governor, seemingly oblivious to Kitty’s (Calista Flockhart) unhappiness. Saul and Sarah (Ron Rifkin, Rachel Griffiths) take extreme measures to keep Tommy’s (Balthazar Getty) legal troubles from Nora (Sally Field). Ryan (guest star Luke Grimes) gets too close to some of his new family members too quickly in “Taking Sides.”

Movie: Kramer vs. Kramer: 10-12 p.m., TCM +2246780
The subject matter is hardly cutting-edge by 2009 standards, but the top-drawer performances of Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep as Ted and Joanna Kramer make this 1979 drama worth a look. Tired of Ted’s workaholism, Joanna walks out, but since she’s left their son (Justin Henry) in his care, he’s forced to adjust his priorities. And when she comes back to claim the boy, Dad has other plans. Hoffman and Streep won Academy Awards, and the film got the best picture Oscar.

This 1998 animated adventure is based on a Chinese folk tale about a girl who disguises herself as a soldier to save her feeble father from death after an edict is given for each able man to defend the kingdom. With the help of her ancestors and a few friends, brave Mulan manages to fight the invading Huns and in the process becomes a national hero. Ming-Na Wen (“ER”) provides the voice of Mulan, with Eddie Murphy lending support.

The members of the Behavioral Analysis Unit investigate a series of deaths with eerie religious overtones, but none of them is more unsettled than Prentiss (Paget Brewster), who has a personal connection to one of the victims. Walton Goggins (“The Shield”), Bruce Davison and Roxanne Hart (“Chicago Hope”) guest star in “Demonology.”

The formula of the Japanese classic “Rashomon” gets a very contemporary spin in director Pete Travis’ melodrama, which looks at the same event from various characters’ points of view. An assassination attempt on the U.S. president (William Hurt) is witnessed by Secret Service agents (Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox, Richard T. Jones), a news producer (Sigourney Weaver) and an amateur videographer (Forest Whitaker).

“Heart of Jenin” recounts a tragic 2005 incident on the West Bank, where a 12-year-old Palestinian boy was fatally shot by Israeli soldiers who mistook his toy gun for a real weapon. The story has a life-affirming ending, however: The boy’s grief-stricken parents consented to giving his organs to six desperate Israeli children whose lives were on the line. Aaron Brown hosts.

Emotions are raw in this new episode as Thomas and the crew break in a new bus driver. After tattooing a crop circle on a self-professed alien hunter in the Utah desert, the crew heads for Salt Lake City, complaining all the way. Thomas tells his underlings that if they don’t like it, they can leave, and an upset Tommy seriously considers taking him up on that. But tattooing a phoenix on what’s left of an accident victim’s arm adjusts his attitude.

Jack realizes that dating a high-ranking aide to the president of the United States carries its own baggage. The hostility between Tracy and Toofer (Tracy Morgan, Keith Powell) lands them in sensitivity training in “The Break-Up.”

Oscar-winning “American Beauty” director Sam Mendes effectively recounts the experiences of soldier Anthony Swofford, who detailed his duty during the first Gulf War in a book, in this gritty drama. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Swofford, who, along with many of his military peers, ended up having to bide lots of time upon reaching the sweltering desert. Jamie Foxx plays their sergeant; Peter Sarsgaard, Chris Cooper and Dennis Haysbert also appear.

He can come up with a melody but not the words, so he asks his plant lady (Barrymore) — who has a way with improvising them — to help him out. However, she’s reluctant to do so.

Elsewhere, Chris and Greg (Tyler James Williams, Vincent Martella) try to score fake IDs to get into a concert, while Rochelle (Tichina Arnold) plans a surprise party for Julius (Terry Crews) in “Everybody Hates Fake IDs.”

But just because it’s called Tombstone doesn’t mean it’s dead. Wyatt can’t hang up his six-shooters until he takes care of the outlaw gang that’s stirring up trouble. Powers Boothe, Charlton Heston, and Dana Delany also star in this 1993 adaptation of the O.K. Corral story.

The brilliant Peter Sellers tackles multiple roles in this delightful 1959 comedy set in the Duchy of Grand Fenwick, an impoverished European country. Jean Seberg also stars.

When a man is found badly beaten in a strip club parking lot with no memory of what happened, Detectives Benson and Stabler (Mariska Hargitay, Christopher Meloni) are at a loss for evidence. But things are rarely what they seem, and eventually they begin to suspect the victim’s transgender teenage offspring (guest star Bridger Zadina) may be responsible in “Transitions.”

An office drone (James McAvoy) doesn’t realize that, like his father, he has secret skills as an assassin in this fast-paced adventure based on a comic-book series.
