More: America Ferrera returns to indie movie fest

ABC has decided to make the current season of Ugly Betty the show’s last.

Zap2It reports the comic soap opera will not continue, ending after a four-season run.

The show was a smash when it debuted in 2006, an Americanized version of an extremely popular telenovela that featured America Ferrera in a breakout role.

But Ugly Betty steadily lost viewers, was relegated to Friday nights, and even a last-minute shift to a strong Wednesday night by ABC couldn’t save it.

According to a statement:

We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this ‘Ugly Betty’s’ final season,” a joint statement from Exec producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson reads. “And are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  2. I used to watch the show every week until it started getting strange. I don’t like the ‘dark’ writing. It takes away from the young latina working way up in the business world. Loved Willemina, but the murder and jail sex, etc. made things too strange for me and I stopped watching the show. I love America; she’s a very good actress, and I would love to see her have some great spin-off or movie. I’m sorry it’s cancelled, but it’s best unless they go back to the way it was that made everyone fall in love with the show in the first place. (I don’t know what this website is. I was following the link on the Betty cancellation!)

OH NO! I will miss this show a lot! I was so excited when I got the new set up with the cable company so I could schedule saving the shows when I missed them. The Suarez family was such a joy to be a part of!! They are so compassionate and real and it was so enjoyable to see the cultural aspect of how they manuvered life with it’s ups and downs. Even Mode seem to starting to be influenced the family’s approach to life.I will very much miss Betty’s “rose colored” glasses! Thank you to the producers of Betty, it’s been refreshing to experience each of the characters. I will miss Betty and also, now, Mark- who seems to finally be starting to realize the special qualities of himself that Betty is starting to bring out in him.

    I will miss this show!!

  4. Suarez says:

OH YES! Cancel that crap. They have already crammed so much trash into this series there is little left to do. These kinds of shows are for the ADD and ADHD. No longer can we actually see a naturally developing story line. I am surprised the main characters have not married and divorced several times already.

  5. Icart says:

I LOVED this show in its first season. I recorded it if I couldn’t watch it live. The following season I noticed something happening: I recorded it and sometimes watched it then sometimes deleted it. The next season I recorded it and mostly deleted it. The only time I was true to it after the initial season was when Ralph Macchio was a guest star on it.

It changed and it lost its appeal. I’m sure many people still loved it but changing nights probably also affected its ratings.

  6. Jill Dalton says:

I will sooooooooooooo miss the show. Have never missed an episode. I do hope the braces come off and a new do before it ends.

  7. Tim says:

The network killed it. Playing musical time slots kills everything. The story lines were funny (except Daniel’s wacko cult scenario) but could have developed Hilda’s son. Why not have focus groups to give feedback so a show a good as this one can get back to what made it the number one show of 2006!!??

I for one am tired of being loyal to a show only to have it cancelled. All of this is about the mighty dollar. I will miss this show terribly!!
